Collecting colostrum

36+2 and I’ve just managed to hand express what I think is some colostrum. Is it normally this pale? The pics I’ve seen they’re bright yellow🤷🏼‍♀️

Yup! Perfectly normal, colour changes drastically depending on what you eat or how much you drink, can be anywhere from gold to clear x

This is normal

My colostrum was pale too. My milk is actually more gold than my colostrum was

Thanks girls! It was my first time trying so thought I’d check😅x

@Julia that’s good to know as I heard from many ppl and read online that it’s yellow but mine is mostly transparent and white, exactly like this one

@Dagmara I collected about 30-40 syringes before giving birth and they were all sorts of shades ahaha

Normal 👏🏻

Looks fab, well done to you, I struggled with this and got none!

How are we hand expressing?!!! I need tips x

@Amy me too!!

@Briella I tried and found it toooo painful hahaha x

@Amy I was hopeless! My husband was the one who was a pro, milling me like a cow 🐮. If someone else does it and you collect it, it can be easier

I'm trying and failing too

@Sophie so clever. I didn’t think of that tbh

@Vera I was struggling but one day saw a tik tok video of someone using the manual pump and how easy it was to use it for colostrum so immediately went onto Amazon 😂

My boobs are aching this morning when I’ve woke up, so I’m assuming I’ve tried too hard 😫

mine are like this too! and sometimes a random mix of shades 🤣 some are a lot lighter and some are more orange. most of mine are a similar colour the pic you’ve shared though!

@Sophie my midwife told that pump shouldn’t be used to collect colostrum until proper milk starts coming out 🤷‍♀️

@Amy I also realised that after hot shower it comes out easier, normally when I touch my nipples nothing comes out but under shower or straight after I can see small drops without any massaging or squeezing just a gentle touch… 🤷‍♀️ it might be worth to try this way 😉 xx

@Dagmara ah mine told me it was fine 🤣

@Sophie I was told a pump is fine too🤣🤣🤣

@Dagmara I am in the UK and using NHS maternity services…they’re who told me pump was fine. Every trust is so different.
