GTT results

Hi all, I failed my GTT on Monday and am starting the whole process tomorrow with hospital, bloods etc. my fasting reading was 4.something so that was fine, but my number after 2 hours was 10.6. Can anybody give it to me straight - am I probably going to struggle to manage with diet?? I know over 10 is really high. I'm so scared of Metformin as I have a phobia of sickness and heard bad things 😭 but I need to know why I'm up against so I can try mentally prepare

My readings were similar, have been doing it for a few weeks now. It’s hard to begin with but it gets easier, just have to be more aware of carbs and sugar. I’ve still managed to have pasta meals, chocolate etc so it’s not as bad as it sounds. Just annoying having to do blood after every meal

Thanks Stacey. Good to know not all hope is lost. I'm half expecting to go tomorrow and be put straight on meds!

I was diagnosed last week. My reading was 8.8 I have done 5 days of finger prick blood readings before and after meals and today’s feedback was that I need to have Metformin. Just had my first tablet with my evening dinner and have to wait and see how it goes…. I don’t want to do anything to put my baby at risk so if that means taking a tablet with some nasty side effects so be it. I’d rather that than to cause future problems for me or baby.

I had very similar readings and so far managing it with diet, remember the drink they give you is ridiculously high in sugar, you probably wouldn't have that first thing in the morning usually! It's really trial and error! I desperately don't want the metaformin either!

I’d be surprised if they put you on meds straight away as they like to see if you can manage first just by changing diet. It’s a lot to take in on the first appointment. I’m no expert but feel free to reach out if you struggle
