Short term disability before maternity leave?

Any of you go on short term disability before maternity leave? How can my doctor give me a letter for it?

I did but only bc it was standard at my workplace (I was not expecting that tbh). They asked for a letter with the condition and due date.

@Una what was your condition?

Should probably ask doctor. Or look into your company policy. But I thought about it too. With a low risk pregnancy they may not approve it. I’m going out at 39 weeks. Tomorrow is my last day. Using pto until baby arrives.

@Tania just pregnancy 😅 not high risk or anything

I am going out on leave next week at 36 weeks pregnant. For my company that is considered the start of my maternity leave but I it is all paid through short term disability. I had to get paperwork filled out by my doctor and my condition is just normal pregnancy and hitting 36 weeks

I’m a high risk pregnancy and my ob said it would be fraud to give me a letter for disability before my leave so unless it’s in your company policy or the doctor has a medical reason besides pregnancy to take you out it’s not likely you’ll get it

I think it should be maditory that at 37 weeks pregnant you start leave no questions asked. The fatigue and uncomfortable state of carrying a baby should be enough. And this leave should be separated from MAT leave.

@Shelley amen sister!
