AMH or FSH tests

Hi all. When I started IVF way back in 2020, my clinic only checked my FSH levels at the start. 4 years later, I'm still having IVF and they will not check again, even though I am now in my 40s. Having researched online it appears AMH tests are more accurate, but my clinic doesn't do this test. I'm convinced I'm approaching perimenopause. Which do people's clinics normally test and do you think it's worth just paying privately, for ease of mind if anything. A lot can change in 4 years, I don't understand their reasoning for not testing again. FYI this is all funded under NHS at the moment, hence why I'd need to do a test private.

I did my first IVF with the nhs funding and my consultant suggested that I do AMH test - but this isn’t funded so I paid for it. She said it’s one of the most helpful tests to determine your protocol and how much stims to use.

So I’d discuss with your consultant to see what they think and tell them you’re happy to pay for it if necessary?

@Wanyu Thank you

My clinic didn’t place too much importance on AMH. If anything, my NHS clinic didn’t want to repeat the one my GP did in case I dropped below the funding threshold. Good luck with it all

AMH = quantity of eggs = ovarian reserve indicator. I've had 3 rounds of IVF and my AMH has decreased from 18 to 13 in just over two years, so I think you're right to want it tested again. I've never had an FSH blood test? I've done the long and short protocols with different FSH meds everytime

@Amelia Thank you. I will def get it tested privately. Will need to speed things up if it is dropping. The amount they collected in both collections worried me, way too many.
