When were you told to start fasting for your GD test?

My OB office said 2-3 hours before my appointment but I thought last time I was supposed to start at midnight. Not sure if I’m remembering the rules for the 3 hour test or if they just told me 2-3 hours because my appointment is in the afternoon. Will the results be more accurate if I start fasting at midnight?

They usually say to fast for 12 hours before your scheduled appointment I believe with sips of water, but it’s also very different for each office. I was told to eat some good protein the morning of and no carbs or sugar. If possible I would try to call but if not I would just try to fast because it’s pretty common. Not too sure about the 3 hours test honestly. But that’s what I somewhat know of the 1 hour test because I just had mine 12ish hours ago

I'd listen to your own medical professionals advice and instructions. You really would rather take uneducated advice over the medical professional you're literally paying for? Id never listen to any of these women over my own obgyn but just my opinion ig 🤷 🙃

@Riah very true

@Riah ok? I’m asking what other people were advised from their medical professionals. I’m pretty sure MY medical professional told me 2 different things a year apart so I’m trying to figure out the best way to go about things. Plus I’d literally be following my OB’s directions either way 😭

If you only fast for 3 hours beforehand you will most likely fail the 1-hour test, and then have to take the 3-hour test.

@Kassidi it depends on your test. I didn’t have to fast for my glucose test this week.

I was told I didn’t have to fast for mine but I probably shouldn’t eat or drink anything super sugary

I also had eggs and bacon like 45-minutes before my test. My results came back normal. Again, it depends on your test and the instructions your doctor gave.

Thank you guys! I’m just really hoping to avoid having to take the 3 hour test this time. I haven’t eaten since before midnight and now it’s 3 hours before my appointment so no more food for me. Let’s hope I pass the 1 hour 🤞🏻

My test was at 3pm so my doctor advised I eat an early breakfast with mainly protein and not high in sugar. I passed my 1 hour test

I was told not to fast at all for my one hour, and to fast for 8 hours for my 3 hour
