Is this a bit odd? Family and birthday gifts

My BIL has sent our daughter a third birthday card. In it he has written ‘Hope you get lots of exciting presents,’ but then hasn’t sent her a present 🤷‍♀️ he got her a present on previous birthdays. And hasn’t been in touch with me or my husband (his brother). Idk seems a bit weird to me. He is not short of cash so I think maybe he just forgot rather than couldn’t afford one. But he sent the card on time???

I would just be happy that he at least sent a card. Maybe mention it to your husband and if he finds it strange then he can talk to his brother but tbh, just leave it.... my younger sister, still to this day hasn't acknowledged my youngest and not even a card for my eldest for 4 years now.... 🤷🏻‍♀️

Has it got lost in the post? 😬

@gabi I’m sorry that sounds upsetting for you 😔 I think it’s the inconsistency that I’m struggling with and the fact he’s written a message about presents. Seems cheeky to say ‘hope you got lots of exciting gifts’ when he hasn’t sent one 😂

@Jessica I suppose it could have done but he hasn’t messaged to say ‘did you get her gift?’ And it’s been a few days now

I know what you mean. Hate the inconsistency.... and especially when children are told they will get something but either they don't or have to wait god knows how long. Any time I see that my mum has written my sisters name in a card I just want to cross it out, it annoys me so much. Like she is a stranger now. Broke my eldest girls heart... can't just do that

It is very odd as it’s never happened to me or my children. I would let your husband handle it how he sees fit and let him rock the boat if he wants too.

Perhaps something got lost or he just forgot. I would thank him for the card in a friendly way as then if there was a present too he will ask if it was received. Neither of my brothers or my dad have remembered my daughters bday but I don’t think it’s a massive deal - I have to remind them all of my mums birthday each year, they just aren’t great at remembering things like that.

@Clodagh I’d be totally fine about something getting lost, but he obviously didn’t forget her birthday as he sent a card. Our son had his first birthday today, so 3 days after our daughter. He didn’t even get a card from my BIL. Yet it was my BIL who first wished him happy birthday on the family WhatsApp group. The plot thickens! 😂
