First midwife appointment

Hi everyone, this is my first pregnancy so I have never experienced a midwife appointment before. I have my first one tomorrow at 8am. Can someone tell me what to expect as I’m quite nervous. Thank you ☺️

Are you uk?

@Amy yes

At my first appointment. The midwife took bloods (you can have a look on the NHS website exactly what they’re looking for)/BP, family history from both sides, social situation, mental health, any medication you’re taking, any concerns, whether you plan on having baby at home or not (obviously you don’t have to make that set in stone, I think it’s more so they can put something on the form), hospital, last period (for predicted DD) and urine sample. They also give you a BUMP pack where I am . No need to be nervous, it’s all okay :) xx

@Amy thank you so much, my biggest fear is needles but I’m going to do it. I’m 22 no need to be scared but I really appreciate you replying ☺️x

Hey :) I didn’t have to have my bloods at my first appointment (around 8 weeks). I had bloods at my 12 week scan appointment. First appointment for me was urine sample, blood pressure and just a load of questions about medical history, mental health, partners medical history and stuff like that :) x

I hate having blood taken and needles. You have quite a few blood tests by the end. Do get used to it. Had two pregnancies now. GD with the first had to test blood sugars. Try breathing and try to relax. Mention to the nurses have a fear. Possibly lie down for tests. Or have feet up. Good luck. 👍

@Carla my partners sister scared me a little bit but I was told that she over exaggerates a little bit so I didn’t really pay too much attention. She was just annoyed and bitter that a new baby was coming into the family x

@Kat thank you, I appreciate that x

You will be fine :) just answering a lot of questions really! Then weight, blood pressure & blood test.
