Am I trying to potty train too early?

My 3 year old daughter is low verbal She knows about 26 words in total but can’t create a sentence just yet. We’ve been working really hard in speech therapy of potty words (pee-pee, poo-poo, Potty etc) She stays pretty dry throughout the day and holds her pull-up when she’s peeing or hides when she’s pooping. We have had 2 successful goes in the toilet months ago but it’s been accidents ever since I just I don’t know if I’m trying to potty train too soon or I should just jump head first into potty training now.

How are you training her?

@Kellie we sit on the potty and talk and read books and practice our “lion faces” 😖😂 This is my first child so I really have no clue what I’m doing and my mom is to old to remember how she potty trained me 23 years ago so any advice I’ll try

@Sierra remind her every 15-20 mins. Ensure she attempts to go every hour. Maybe also start a reward chart… that helps allot. Also, ensure that she can undress herself for easy access to the potty x

There is a really good book Oh Crap Potty Training. 3 is not too early. It's better to get started because it'll be harder if you keep waiting. The book has a lot of great troubleshooting for different situations. I trained my daughter early because my aunt waited until my cousins were close to 4 and it was such a power struggle so I read about potty training in other countries and most places start earlier. It's the diaper companies that make us obsessed with readiness. Even without words, kids are smart. Using the potty is a social behavior. She can learn that. You can do it!
