Chicago City Hall Wedding

Hey ladies! I am getting married next month and don’t know what to expect from the courts? What should I expect and what happens? Is it like a minute thing? Or little longer?

We did this too 😊. From what I remember, if you go on a Saturday you need an appointment (this is what we did), but I believe the weekdays were first-come, first-serve. It was a bit of a wait, and you eventually go downstairs and a judge in a small room marries you. Some people bring tons of people, some just come as the couple. The ceremony itself took maybe 5 minutes, but we waiting well over an hour. Congrats!

We have an appointment it’s on a Saturday

Congrats! We loved our court wedding (it was tempting to stop there, but we had already booked the party for the year later :p) in 2022, when we had our Saturday AM appointment, it was still sort of first come first serve at that time at least. My in-laws arrived at 8am and were first in line, but it took a while for the doors to open. It didn’t seem like they were really honoring the exact appointment time, and the line of couples went down the block. Despite being first in line, there was about a 10 min wait to see the judge, and then barely 5 min for the ceremony, where video called my parents in. Still a really happy day! Hope you and your future spouse have a wonderful experience!
