Potty training & Poo

We are currently potty training our daughter (2.5yrs) for a week now. Absolutely no issues with wee’s at all! No accidents so she was completely ready for this next step. Our issue is currently with poo’s! She has had 3 poo’s since last Monday (not normal for her) and she spends hours screaming that it’s “hurty” jumping up and down, completely inconsolable. We have kept her nappy on for poo’s as she doesn’t want to use the toilet yet and I don’t want to force her to either. I want her to be comfortable but i feel like she’s completely holding her poo in, until it’s painful. So far we’ve tried: -baths -tummy strokes -prune purée -distractions (phones/tv) -asking if she wants to use the toilet (singing, snacks, blowing bubbles) I hate seeing her in pain and I’m not to sure what to do. Any advice welcome!

Is she using the toilet or potty only advice would be to put the potty in a private place I know some kids go behind the sofa etc so they aren't seen so it may help her go?

@Emily she will only use the toilet! I tried potty months ago and she wasn’t a fan and I don’t think she was truly ready. So I left it for a few months and the past week she’s gone to the toilet herself for wees. I’ve not pushed this at all. Everything has been completely her choice which is why it’s so sad seeing her like this for poo’s! Xx

Bless her have ypu got advice from the HV xxx

my son is the same he will not poo on the potty or the toilet we have been at it for weeks and trying every kind of reward/distraction etc he will wee on the toilet or potty no problem but will only poo in his nappy!

@Sunseeker is he holding in his poo to? It’s almost like my daughter has become scared of having a poo. It’s heartbreaking to watch!

@Emily going to be phoning them today and the docs! Xx

Hi! We had an issue with poos even in the nappy! We were referred to the incontinence team as my little girl would take half an hour or longer just to go as she would panic/be in pain/ be upset etc. We have been given laxatives and a medicine that helps them go.. best thing we did! She goes more or less straight away now. And when we started potty training apart from being a bit scared she was okay with poos on the potty. We still have days were she panics if it hurts. The practitioner said it is so common in kids these days so definitely worth speaking to the GP! Xx

@Lorna Thankyou lovely. I got some lactolose yesterday and it does seem to be taking the edge off a little bit. I’ve told her it gives her magical powers to push poo’s out 😂 she is still trying to hold it in and saying it hurts. Will see how we get on over the next few days!! Is your little girl not suffering as much anymore? Xx
