Food straight after giving birth

Hi, my diabetes midwife advised I continue eating as if I have GD 24 hours after giving birth, and to input my readings during this time. She did say that technically the placenta is the problem so once it's out things should be ok, but also that things can take time to stabilise. I can't decide whether to have the sugar-laden treats I was planning, or if I should just suck it up for another 24 hours in case it's medically beneficial for them to see readings that aren't misrepresented by the food I'm eating. I asked her and she said it's up to me if I want to take the risk by eating this kind of food straightway. But I'm not sure what the risk is, if they will put high readings down to the hormones still being in my system anyway? This is NHS in the UK for context. Any thoughts hugely appreciated (and I'd be curious to know what treats people are planning, for fun!). Thanks

Never heard of taking readings after birth of course after having GD you have to he careful in general for the rest of ypur life due to to risk of T2D

If it was me I’d be eating whatever I wanted I can’t lie 🤣 probably not the best advice tho lol🤪

I was told to take my bloods after I gave birth for 24 hours, honestly I think I did about once or twice cuz I kept forgetting. The numbers after pregnancy are higher than during pregnancy so there is more likely going to be more accepting of a number over 7.8 after food as I think it changes to 11 something after birth

I was told to start eating my regular diet and to stop all medication right after.

So my diabetes team wanted me to test for two days after birth just in case. I did try and eat like i had GD for that period. X

I had to take my readings for a day after birth but was allowed to eat whatever I wanted which was a lot of sweet treats and my numbers were fine.

Thanks a lot everyone, really appreciate the responses and sounds like a mixed bag! I believe the cut off for readings goes from 7.8 to 11.1 after birth and 100% will need to be careful with the risk of type 2, just wanted to enjoy a bit of freedom straight after 😂
