Womens health is important!

Had a mummy mot yesterday and every mum needs this post pregnancy! Even tho I'm 10months postnatal I still found it incredibly informative and useful. My abdominal separation has reduced dramatically but was still given exercises to help with the process. Those postnatal GP appointments are trash! Mothers are not supported or informed enough after baby unless you have a difficult delivery. We should not have to go private to access adequate care (in the UK) Anyone else feel the same or different? I'd love to hear all opinions.

I completely agree. I haven’t have any mummy mot but the lack of information and support post partum shocked me! Like this madness has just happened to our body’s, do some explaining pls 😭 I had an emergency c section and at my 8 week check up they weren’t even bothered to check on it until I mentioned it

Where do you get these mummy MOTS? Just at a private GP or more health and wellness clinic type places? I’ve just had a traumatic forceps delivery and they had the nerve to chat to me about after care whilst laying on my back, still shellshocked having just delivered my baby. Like read the room, I wasn’t into chatting pelvic floor health and contraception right in that moment :-/

My GP check was great! So thorough and he was really informative although I work for the NHS as a healthcare professional myself. No complaints at all.

@Yvonne I also had a c section and all the nurse did was prod my stomach and said its fine lol I would definitely recommend a mummy mot, the cost is probs thr reason why it tool me so long and I was weighing up whether it would be beneficial

@Krissy so sorry about your delivery. Just Google 'mummy mot near me'

I 100% agree, I had an extremely traumatic birth and I had to actually ask them to check my vagina at my postnatal app I didn’t think she was even going to. I had an episiotomy and a 2nd degree tear. I even went back around 12 weeks pp to ask to be checked again as I just didn’t feel right and I was told this is normal and it will never be the same again after childbirth so just deal with it basically. I was made to feel like a stupid FTM, I even put in a complaint to my gp surgery for how they dealt with me. We are very lucky to have the nhs and I am very grateful for it but my experience with my gp was awful x

@Rita It's good to hear some positives regarding postnatal care through the NHS. If only every women got the same

I completely agree, I had a mummy mot at four months pp and it was one of the best things I had! They definitely should be something all women are offered after birth, I find it so upsetting that we have so many appointments before birth then nothing after! At my six weeks I was not even checked or asked how I was.

@Rebecca Roberts I'm so happy you were satisfied with ur mummy mot. It really should be standard postnatal care

My 6wk check, the gp didn't even know how I had given birth or where! Was asked how I felt and what contraception i wanted that was it. Never checked my stitches

@Kath ah I remember being asked how do I feel lol honestly it's poor quality

The 6 weeks check up at the GP is a joke. He asked me how my birth was and I said I found it extremely traumatic and he just moved onto the next question 🤦🏼‍♀️. I paid for a private mummy MOT 3 months PP because I felt like everything down below just wasn’t right and wanted an actual professional to fully take a look at my vagina and check that things looked how they should. Best £100 I spent and I think it should be free and offered to all women post birth as they actually check everything.

@Chaniqua what is the mummy mot? What do they do etc I’m interested now

💯 agree. Tbh I’ve been shocked with the lack of education on what to expect postpartum. I’m in pretty good shape physically but have still suffered badly with all sorts of weird and wonderful symptoms, my health visitor is rubbish so I don’t bother calling her (she doesn’t reply to my voicemails anyway), GP appointment is so hard to get and they just give you very general advice you can get online and so I’m just left to self diagnose and come up with my own action plans. I count myself lucky knowing I’m physically quickly fit and am also very organised so just crack on but others aren’t as lucky!

I also did a Mummy MOT (paid privately) 8 weeks PP and highly recommend!

@Krissy I went to kin body and sole in York and she was really informative and would really recommend it

@Lena I'm so glad you sort better professional help! Sorry you had a shitty postnatal check. How was your recovery once you had the mummy mot?

@Yvonne so in my appointment, they asked about my pregnancy, labour and postnatal recovery. I had an internal examination(optional) were she assessed my pelvic floor. We also went through some useful Stretches and exercises. She also checked my ab separation. I didn't have to book a follow up. Definitely use the website Aggs linked, u can find ur nearest one

@Chaniqua still rough unfortunately but so glad I went so I knew physically things were healing as they should. Took 8-10 months to really feel better and even now 2 years PP everything is definitely not what it was pre baby but don’t think it ever will be. We sacrifice so much to bring our babies into the world!

@Lena I don't think our bodies can be 100% the same after carrying babies
