Potty training

My sons 3 in November and still in nappies, he starts nursery in January and I’d really like him out of nappies i don’t like the thought of a stranger changing his bum. Is there any tips and tricks on what I can do, he’s not showing any interest but I’d like to introduce him to it, he’s also nonverbal

My non-verbal boy was still in nappies up until the week before he started reception. I learnt that I couldn't 'train' him until he was ready to do it himself, no matter which way I tried to teach and communicate with him he just plain and simple didn't want to! I started with him at about 3 as well. I would cry to the health visitor about it and she would tell me, unless he's showing signs that he's ready, there's just no point in enforcing it on him because it can have the opposite effect. There are some really good books out there, though, if your little one is responsive to books and pictures x

@Natalie no my son will eat books and stickers 😂 he also has pica I say this he’s not interested but I feel like a shit mum because people have told me he’s nearly 3 and still in nappies so it feels like I’m doing something wrong. And I also don’t like the thought of someone changing his bum. I will introduce him to the toilet but won’t force anything on him I’m not like that at all but if I don’t try he won’t know what it’s for x

@Natasha Don't let anyone make you feel bad for it. My own family used to put me down because he was still in nappies but it was out of my control - he's so stubborn and independent, everything he does has to be on his terms only. Eventually he learnt by copying my husband and I, might be an idea to introduce it that way? X
