New puppy and going out in the garden

We're picking up our new puppy very soon at 8 weeks old and the breeder said not to let her out in the garden for the first two weeks. Does that sound right? Everywhere I've read says that it's OK for them to be out in gardens, just not outside in areas where other dogs/ wild animals have been. For outside walks we have a sling, but I was hoping to skip the puppy pad stuff and just take her out in the garden every 30 min, 1h to potty train. We don't have other animals and no foxes visit our garden (we have cameras around the house so I would know). We used to have a fox coming in our front garden, but a year ago, but not anymore. Her comment made me quite anxious, as of course I want the pup to be healthy, but two weeks of constant pooing and weeing inside + a toddler is just not ideal / sounds rather unhealthy. Any thoughts?

I've never heard of this! Puppies are fine to go out in the garden before they've had all their jabs.

We were told our garden is fine just to keep an eye out for slugs etc

@Steph oh yeah...slugs. My cocker spaniel was obsessed with trying to eat them when we first got her!

@Becky yeah my staffy was trying to snort them🤣🤣

Your garden is fine 😊 it's public spaces like parks and woods where other dogs have been you need to be careful of. But once they've had their jabs it's fine.

@Becky 😆 Good to know, we're getting a cocker spaniel ☺️ Thanks everyone, not sure if the breeder is just maybe extra protective of her animals, but I've never come across this advice before and wasn't mentally prepared for it either.

@Emandoh They're amazing dogs, but they They will try to eat everything they shouldn't and anything disgusting, though 🤣 Socialisation is so important, so I'd definitely take them out to different places as much as possible in the sling before they're vaccinated!

Yeah avoid puppy pads, no need to teach them to toilet inside. Garden is fine. What an odd thing to say. Do make sure you take puppy out with you a lot before they are fully jabbed though, just carry them. It’s so important they see and hear things.
