Anyone given potty training a go?

How did it go any advice, my little one hates nappy changes, wheni say hate I'm really not exaggerating. In the morning he goes on the potty because I put him there and always has a wee. What did you do for the rest of the day? Leave nappy free? If you have started how's it going x

I looked up the stats on how long it takes to potty train and it typically takes a long time if you start this early so I decided to wait a while!

How many signs of readiness are they showing? 1. Your child has dry nappies for at least an hour or two at a time.  2. They understand when they are having a wee and may tell you they’re doing one. 3. They recognise when they have a wet or dirty nappy and may pull at it, take it off or ask you to change it.  4. There may be visible signs your child needs to go to the toilet, like fidgeting or going somewhere quiet or hidden. 5. They know when they need to wee and may say so in advance.  I am thinking about starting slowly as mine shows a few signs. He will pat the front of his nappy when he goes for a wee and says “poo” when he needs a poo. He also hides when he pops and wants privacy. All children are different so if yours is showing signs then there’s no harm in starting. However if it’s a struggle, I’d pull back just so there’s isn’t any pressure on your LO. I think the start point of putting him on the potty first thing is great. That’s how I will start.

I’d then make sure you’re at home for a few days or if you leave home, put a nappy on. He should be able to tell you when he needs a poo or wee so then you can put him straight on the potty. You can leave nappy off and get some toilet training pants. When a person puts their baby in the potty every hour or so, it’s called elimination communication which ain’t really potty training and some start this from birth (the can lead to potty training issues/regression later down the line but not always). @Emma thanks so much that was all really helpful. Xx

We did EC part time since 7.5m (morning and evening) and this past week we started to have nappy free time while in the house. We encourage potty, remind, if she makes sounds, put her, she goes on potty while I go toilet.... She tells us some of the times, she tells you where the pee goes, some times she signals when it's already happening... I would say 70% success, but she will stay dry in nappy for outings under an hour/hour and half now and is dry mist nights. I think it will just click one morning. Fyi, I'm back home in Slovakia this week and most kids are potty trained by/around 18m, nappies are 3x as expensive as in the UK, no wonder people don't wait long 😂

@Lenka this is amazing! I’m hoping my LO will slowly start soon! X

@Emma tbh I had higher hopes of progress as we did EC for so long.... But we will get there
