Kit days during mat leave

Hey guys I’m new to all this maternity leave and how it all works. Can someone explain to me how the kit days work? Is everyone eligible for them? Does it depend on the employer? I started working here a month into my pregnancy so I’m not entitled smp. Will I still qualify for kit days? Or not? Thanks!

You would have to check your maternity contract. Im honestly not sure, i imagine it would entirely depend on what your company has agreed.

Employees can work up to 10 days during their maternity or adoption leave. These days are called ‘keeping in touch days’. Keeping in touch days are optional - both the employee and employer need to agree to them. The type of work and pay employees get should be agreed before they come into work. The employee’s right to maternity or adoption leave and pay is not affected by taking keeping in touch days.

It may be different where you work. At my work if I work any KIT days I get paid statutory if I'm receiving full pay already and full pay if on statutory. I can also choose to not get paid and keep them as time off in lieu when I return.

Yeah at my work if you are already receiving full pay then you don’t get paid anything for a KIT day but if you’re on statutory or nil pay then you get full pay for a KIT day. That’s a good idea about the time off in lieu, I may see if I can do that.
