Whole cake or a slice of cake for one year old celebrations?

So it's our second boy's first birthday in 2 weeks and I'm planning on ordering a cake from our favourite Italian cake shop which we've done for our first every year. The smallest is £26 supposedly for 6-8 portions but more like 10 really. Hubby thinks going for a whole one is too much and we should just pop in and buy a few slices. Which would you go for? I don't mind eating it over 2 days and giving some to our neighbour who happily takes a chunk. Am I being wasteful wanting a whole cake? Just think it's nice for memories, photos etc especially since we've done that with our first for 3 years

26 quid for a cake is nothing in comparison to what other places charge. How much does one slice cost?

A cupcake is enough for a one year old to have fun with

we get what they call a smash cake for their 1 year birthday and normally its free. I'm not sure exactly where you are but try checking into that.

26 is a good price for a cake. Here they charge almost $50 for a cake where I live or 200 for a custom cake. I think it’s worth paying 26 for the photos and you get a good amount of slices.

For the last 4 years, every year for my son’s party I do custom cake, cupcakes and other sweets. His birthday is next month (October - turning 5) and I already ordered him a custom cake and cupcakes with his birthday theme . Our cake lady is the same lady who did his first birthday cake. I’m pregnant with baby #2 (another boy) and will be doing the same with him along with a first birthday/family photoshoot Then family photoshoot every 3-4 years. I’m having my baby shower tomorrow and the custom cake and cupcakes cost me about $80-$90. Then my son’s custom cake, cupcakes, ect,. was about $115. I’d say, go for it!

Thanks everyone. Glad I'm not being silly and going to order the whole cake. Yeh £26 really isn't a lot, not sure got much a slice is, imagine maybe a few quid? I just think baby no2 should have the same. We will have a cake smash photo shoot next week with just a supermarket cake. Also same as what we did with our 3 year old except this photography costs more. Re

@Magen I'm in the UK. No we don't get free cake here. Where are you based? I have family in Hong Kong and they sometimes get free cake at cake shops on their birthdays as a loyalty scheme! Wish we had that😆

I always think they only turn one once

I'm in Florida love. smash cakes in the US are common. if anything you can do a cupcake for baby and a sheet cake for whoever comes .
