Silly question but how do you start potty training your child?

We’ve got a few quiet days at home coming up and I feel like my daughter may be ready to start. I’ve got the potty/knickers/sticker chart etc 😂

Reading books about the potty- and just letting them go commando

I would just recommend letting her be bare bummed round the house before introducing knickers/trousers. Then she can be most aware of the feeling when she needs to go. Hovering and asking too much didn’t work well with our daughter, it put too much pressure on. We would periodically ask her ‘if her wee was ready’ (this is language she used so we went with it) if it had been a while since her last attempt or if we noticed she was crossing her legs and doing a bit of a wee dance! Once we had a couple of wees in the potty she really started to get it although we still had accidents as it took her some time to tune into her body. The first 3 days were tricky, I wasn’t sure we were making much progress but we introduced some more exciting rewards and I would say 2-3 weeks in and she’s fully potty trained at home, out and at nursery when it comes to wee. We’re still yet to get a poo in the potty though but we’ll keep encouraging her and hope she’ll get there soon!

I didn’t have a plan as such I just put her in pants and let her take the lead. She cracked it within a week both wees and poos and I can’t remember the last accident she had. We started August 1st so just last month

I just put pants and shorts on my son and took him to the toilet every 30mins, by the end of the week he had it down. I stayed home for 4 days just focused on taking him regularly, then I went out to Asda and to a wedding and we had no accidents. Now, 2 weeks later he tells me anytime he needs to go toilet and can take himself. Keep cleaning supplies handy, lots of stickers and something to keep them occupied on potty/toilet so they can relax enough to poo - I used flash cards and bubbles. Every child is different and you don't know how hard or easy it's going to be until you start. It was stressful at first but it got better as he started understanding his body. Best of luck!

We Just took the nappy off and let her wet herself then picked her up and popped her on the potty each time. Took a few days and lots of washing but she picked it up quickly. We started in mid Feb and she’s fully trained now. She still wears nappies at night but she’s almost always dry. Going to give it a few more weeks then we might try nappy free!

@danielle I have started showing my daughter potty books. She won’t put knickers on so I think commando might be the way 😂

@Lauren I think we may have to try going commando too. I tried putting my daughter in knickers and she didn’t like it lol

@Amanda My daughter is still commando haha! She point blank refuses knickers!!

My daughter is the same 😂 I don’t know what to do 😂😂
