PPD

To anyone that has been diagnosed with PPD, what were you feeling like before? I have down days where I feel like I could have it but it’s not everyday. Today is one of those days but I feel like I’ll wake up feeling fine again tomorrow, as I have done before?

When in doubt don't hesitate to speak to your GP as they might have support groups and other tools available to you if you're having the occasional down day. I was diagnosed with Post Partum Anxiety with my first - things got so bad I could barely leave the house. I think if your low moods are having a significant impact on your life and becoming difficult to manage then that's a pretty good indicator. It's important to remember that everyone has good days and bad days - being a parent is not easy! I hope this was helpful 💗 All the best. X

I have not been diagnosed officially, but I had very typical symptoms and managed to get out of it on my own, but it was a long process. You can develop PPD up to 2 yeats postpartum and very often there is something else before, that left to develop turns into PPD. Post partum anxiety can be one, but there is more. It's important to identify what causes you to feel down on those days and try to address it - e.g. lack of support system, sleep deprivation, history of depresive episodes...if there is no trigger, it could be hormonal, it could be a deficiency in certain vitamins and minerals. It could be something as simple as your diet - junk food messes up the gut health, which can also cause depression and other conditions. Try keeping a diary of how much you sleep, what you eat and drink (roughly) and anything that affected you, both in a positive and negative way. There was also a really good nhs website I used that provides lots of suggestions in how to improve your mental health, I found it very helpful.
