Recruitment process timescale

I’m a newly qualified OT & I was offered a role in May which I’m still waiting a start date on. I was interested in knowing how long your recruitment process was as I’m finally feeling ready to start now my little girl is 10 months old and settled at nursery but I’m finding communication quite poor. I’m beginning to worry that I’m never going to start this job😔 any feedback would be greatly appreciated- for context all background checks, references, O/H etc completed.

I’d email HR or if you know your managers details and press for your clinical induction and trust induction start date as you need to get organised etc. Personally they should also explain why the delay has been so long.

@Dianne Hi Dianne, sadly HR have never communicated well with me & my manager has been doing the majority of the back and forth between myself and HR since all checks have been complete. However in the past 2 weeks communication through her has slipped too😩 I’ve tried chasing but at this point I’m questioning wether it’s time to apply for others but I’m a bit put off this trust now

@Melissa I don’t blame you - it’s like begging for a role. It doesn’t give a good impression at all does it.

@Dianne It is. Im so disappointed

From my experience, every trust I have worked for have been slow getting me in. It is down to HR, who fortunately don't have involvement once you are in the job. I know it can be really off-putting, but the team you will be working with are different people and will hopefully be a much more positive experience x

@Katherine thank you, that’s reassuring x

I don’t understand what the hold up is if all checks have been completed, surely the service/manager wants you to start asap? How has it been left with the manager you were in contact with? Was she going to do something? Once all checks have been completed all they need to do is agree a start date with you. In my experience it can take up to 3 months, but that is quite long. I’d say 2 months is more reasonable if it’s a first job, new Trust etc. HR don’t sound very good. Is there a HR manager you can speak to?

@Amy the last conversation with the manager was that she needed to agree a start date with the matron of the unit but he was on A/L till 02/09 so we were waiting on his response. I chased this at the end of last week and then she was on A/L but returned yesterday so I’m assuming she’s probably busy catching up. I’ve emailed the matron to see if he has any updates so I’m just hoping by the end of this week I have heard from someone.

Oh I see. If she’s just returned then she will def be busy catching up with emails and maybe even liaising with the matron. I know it’s frustrating not hearing back but it sounds like you’ll be starting soon! P.s I’m an OT too 💚

I was interviewed for a role in June and just got my start date last week and that was with me constantly mothering them because I wanted to start at end of my maternity. Most things were done quick but it took ages for the manager to do the ID checks and sign off my occ health. I was ringing recruitment every week asking them to chase her.

Well the nhs gods were listening as today I’ve officially been given a start date🤗🥰 kind of freaking out a little but finally I have it to look forward to

@Melissa 🥳🥳🥳 so pleased for you!!! Hope you have a great start!
