The pill and my period

Hi ladies I’m a bit concerned because my doctor put me on the pill and said I would only have my period one day a month. I had my period for the past 8 nearly 9 days and it’s heavy still, I also had my period for 2 days the week before and 3 days 2 weeks before that and normally I would only have my period last 5 days once a month if I don’t take the pill.. I’ve stopped taking the pill but has anyone else had this issue before?
