OB only gave me 2 more weeks for disability leave, regardless of all my issues going on. Has anyone been denied longer time? If so, what was your next move?

Yup, my medical provider made it super difficult to extend disability. I had to go see an outside provider and pay out of pocket that would approve me to be off work longer.

Same here! Just 2 more weeks. She did say that was all they were allowed to give out but that my therapist was able to extend it as well for longer. I only have a therapist and not a psychologist. I think my OB meant to say phycologist. I am waiting to meet with one now and hopefully convince her to extend my disability because boy do I need it. This postpartum and pregnancy were so hard for me. They might obly extend it if you agree to take medications, though

@Melissa did you find another ob to extend it?

Yes, I paid out of pocket for an outside provider to approve me to be off work longer.

@Ana absolutely ridiculous that we have to jump through hoops to get it extended. Are you seeing a virtual psychologist or in person?

California is cracking down on OBs extending past 2 weeks. My OB said I would have to either get it extended through my Cardiologist for my Postpartum heart failure or a Psychiatrist for PPD for them to extend further.

Also, it’s a psychiatrist you want not a psychologist. Psychiatrist are who can prescribe medication. Thats who they want to hear from.

I asked to see them virtually and was told for the first few appointments that was fine, but I medication was prescribed, and then I would need to come in person to be seen for some appointments. I agreed to it. I used to take Zoloft after my 1st pregnancy due to ppa, but I didn't feel like it helped me much.

You can go to another doctor and get a second opinion and do that again and again until someone listens to you that’s what I had to do. My mom worked for social security I can ask her and come back to this thread and let you know what she recommends

Okay here’s what I got. Since you’re getting state disability the max you can be on it is for a year so your doctor will give you the okay if it’s been a year or if he thinks you’re good enough to be out in the work force again. If you feel this isn’t accurate you can get second opinions but if you’re at your max year there’s nothing you can do to keep state disability. If you did max out you can apply for social security permanent disability.

@jayna Not even close to being a year, that’s why I surprised she was only giving me two extra weeks 😢

I was able to get paid for 4 months after giving birth and at my postpartum 6 week check up my obgyn gave edd a letter that I can return in July but I was able to get paid till the end august from Edd because my work gave me til September to return. I think it depends between your doctors, Edd and your job.
