Hycosy

Hi. Today I was speaking with my clinic about my nhs funding and they told me that I need to do a hycosy test. I’m really worry! Especially pain! Any experience? Or advice?

I just had a hycosy last Friday and it was surprisingly painless!! I had an extremely painful HSG in July 2023 so I was particularly worried but the hycosy is so different. The only uncomfortable part was the speculum but the rest of the procedure was quick and painless. The catheter they used for mine was really small and flexible so it adhered to my natural anatomy (whereas during my HSG they used a larger, rigid catheter) and then they stuck the ultrasound wand in and observed the saline being pushed through my uterus. I had mild cramping for the rest of the day that disappeared overnight. They say to take 3 ibuprofen an hour before your procedure to minimize discomfort. I had no bleeding after either. Good luck!!

Mine did hurt actually - not like, sudden overwhelming pain, but like really bad period pains, when you’re in the throes of your worst day of cramps. Mine was made worse by the fact it was during Covid and was really warm, so had a mask on in a stifling room too. But as soon as they deflate the balloon thing, it instantly stops.

I found mine rather painful. I had a hycosy, speculum uncomfortable as usual, but they said I had an issue of a "dancing cervix"... Every time they went near my cervix, it moved and this made the whole thing take a lot longer than it should, I had to keep adjusting my position, with the speculum in. I think by this point I was really nervous too and they seemed to be frustrated that they couldn't get it right first time. Took about 10-15mins of that pain/discomfort. Once actually in it wasn't too bad, feels weird as the balloon inflates but nothing else.
