Gestational Diabetes/PCOS

Hiya all! I am a bit worried as I asked at my booking in appt whether I should have gestational diabetes testing as I have Pcos, the midwife said no. I am now 28 weeks pregnant and mentioned it again today at my appointment as I have been having some symptoms. They said I should definitely have been put forward for one and have rushed me an appt for Thursday. I now feel worried as I have thought I have had it (just with how I react to and crave sugar and weeo g etc). If I do have it will it have been really bad that this hasn’t been controlled untill my last trimester? Worried about the impact, has anyone been in this position? Cheers xxx pic for attention as apparently that helps haha xxx

I was booked in for one at my booking appointment due to family history with gestational diabetes and it wasn’t scheduled until I was 28 weeks, I had it last week and all was fine so try not to worry too much!

@Rachel aww thank you that makes me feel a lot better! There have been a few things missed and this is my first pregnancy so has just been hard knowing what’s what! Glad to hear all went well! Was the test itself horrendous? I am petrified of needles as I pass out so getting myself in a state due to that too 🙈 gawwdddd xxxx

@Laura honestly it wasn’t bad at all, I am also terrible with needles but they were so quick taking my bloods each time and the drink itself was not bad at all. I had it out to be worse in my head but it was all totally fine!

the whole thing with GD is to know if you’re body is able to regulate the sugar levels, try to eat less sugar healthy foods meanwhile until you get your results, tbh thats what they tell someone with GD is to try to keep their blood sugars in range

I have PCOS and I was booked in for gestational diabetes between 16-17 weeks as apparently those with PCOS are at higher risk of developing it. My test came back clear and now have another one booked for just over 29 weeks as standard x

@Natasha hiya- thanks for your reply! That’s what I’m worried about as it was never done earlier in my pregnancy :/ I guess there is not much I can do now but definitely quite frustrating with the differing actions of the community midwife’s. Glad all was clear and hope you get another clear one ❤️

@Rachel aww that’s reassuring to hear! Honestly I feel it’s so irrational with me, it’s just because I can go funny afterwards I get so in my head about it! Really trying to not make it into a big deal in my head 😂 thanks for all your reassurance ❤️❤️

@Mary hey thanks Mary! I have tired to not be too unhealthy but I love food so much 🙈 so have definitely treated myself where usually I wouldn’t 🙈 just now worrying as if I had had it done before I would have been much more controlled. Definitely will try be healthier regardless of test outcome- thanks so much xxx

My last pregnancy they didn’t test me until 38weeks due to extra fluid around baby. All was absolutely fine

You'll be fine. You're not tested routinely for it until 26 weeks anyways so 28 weeks isn't too late x

I have one on the 23rd of this month and will be around 28 weeks so I think it's common for them to test later . I'm gonna be shocked if I haven't gotten it. The amount of sweet stuff I just want is crazy. I keep saying no I'm gonna eat healthier and it's just not satisfying.

I wouldn’t worry too much about not being tested until now. In my first pregnancy I wasn’t tested until 29 weeks but had many of the symptoms from much earlier in the pregnancy. Despite being diagnosed late, my little girl was born perfectly healthy at 7lb 5oz.

I have PCOS (my first was IVF because of it) and this is my second pregnancy. I have had GD testing in both but it was actually due to my parents being diabetic and not to do with my PCOS. But for both I didn't get tested until 26 weeks. I think because you have mentioned symptoms is why you will be fast tracked to be tested as opposed to their worries surrounding PCOS. Both my test came back negative, the first time I honestly thought I had it to as I had super bad headaches and blurred vision. So fingers crossed all is good but I wouldn't worry. Also the drink is so much easier now...it used to be horrendous 🤣

I’m high risk for gestational diabetes, my test isn’t until this week and I’m 28 weeks. My hospital only do it from 28 weeks for everyone so I wouldn’t worry x

I have PCOS and my GD test appointment was booked within my booking appointment but it’s not until 28 weeks

I have PCOS and high risk for preeclampsia and was told that I don’t have to wait until 28 weeks. Apparently, women with PCOS have a high chance of having GD. I did the test at 24 weeks and thankfully, I got the all clear. There’s nothing to worry about as long as it’s detected. You can’t get worried about the past because that would then affect the future, lol. So just stay calm, do the test and even if it’s negative, still watch your sugar and salt intake. 💕

I've got PCOS and also now diagnosed with GD after the 28 week glucose tolerance test. I was then booked in for a scan of baby that week and I've got a couple more scans but currently he's looking alright. I suspect I may have had it uncontrolled for least a few weeks as all of a sudden I needed the loo a crazy amount. I didn't get offered the glucose test earlier in my pregnancy and wasn't aware of the extra risk really so definitely didn't do low carbs, especially as those were my safe foods with ongoing nausea fun. But for now I'm diet managed and baby seems to be doing alright so will see.
