I’m so done with Potty training

Been trying since Easter. He knows what to do now and will take himself but will have days and occasions where he just wees in his pants. He’s great with poo’s but he just can’t be bothered to go. It’s really getting me down now I’ve tried everything to encourage- reward charts, not making a big deal of accident and praising when he goes in toilet but nothing seems to work. He’s very independent and stubborn so when I try prompt it doesn’t go well. He’s really good a nursery and only has odd accident. I just don’t know what to do

Is he wearing pants? If he is, you could try going commando so he feels wet and uncomfortable. Maybe that will encourage him to go in the potty/toilet rather than feeling wet and uncomfortable x

@Mariam I’ve tried that a few times we used the oh crap method originally

Exactly the same with my son Becky - trying since Easter, great with poo’s. We have a few weeks of no accidents, or very little and then (like now) days and days of multiple wee’s in the pants. He used to not like the feeling of wet pants/clothes, but now it’s like he’s got used to it and doesn’t care. Then we have to go right back to square one where we have to ask him every hour if he needs a wee again. Like your son he doesn’t respond well to prompting. I think he just thinks using the potty is a waste of time when he is playing and can just go in his pants 🙈! you’re not alone xxx

Mine stopped pooing in potty when he turned 2 so I was battling with convincing him to stop doing it in the pullups. He wud even wait until nap time knowing he'll be put in a pullup. I worked out if he went pee b4 his nap he'd be dry so I took the risk of putting no pulluos on until bedtime. First started off with him being butt naked. Once he started going regular I added pants back on without bottoms. It works better if u can take time off and do it for a atleast 3 days minimum.

Same here. I take my little boy to wee every 2.5/3 hours, otherwise he’ll likely have an accident. I’ve read that for some children, self initiation can take a year or 2 to click. I spoke to community family support and she said it was very normal especially for boys. So I’m not stressing over it, just keeping an eye on timings. It stops a lot of accidents, and every now and then he’ll surprise me and take himself after only a small dribble. Hope that makes you feel a little better about it x

Thank you all for your replies it makes me feel alittle better that I’m not alone! So many say how their lo is trained in a week or so and it’s so disheartening. I know he can do he’s just stubborn and cannot be bothered. I’ve even restored to training pants to try save on his trousers. I’ve gone back to naked a few times but I might try again x

@Tasha I’ve even thought about going back to pulls up then keep thinking it’s a bad idea as it’s been too long… also don’t think he would want to wear them now.its a struggle to get him to wear them for naps and bed

I feel the same. Baby no.2 is due next week and I was hoping it would have clicked by now but it's still a lot of hard work. Worrying how I'm going to manage with a newborn. Makes me so tempted to go back to pull ups but then equally feel like that's months of wasted effort 😫
