Birth control confusion

Right I have been off any Birth control for over 4 years. And during that time I had my daughter she is 2 in November. But I keep having the worse pains and heavy periods. I know if I go to see a doctor they will request I go on birth control. But the only one which doesn’t affect hormones or weight is the Coil. But my partners mum has begged me not to go on it as it apparently stopped her having any more kids . What’s everyone’s experience on the Coil Comment below- good or bad

It’s very sad that your MIL had a negative experience, but it doesn’t stand for all women. I know women who have been on the coil for a number of years and still had kids after, and had great experiences with the coil. I personally didn’t have a great experience - I had to have mine removed as it became dislodged and I only found out because I was having a scan to check my ovaries, etc. I told the lady scanning me that I was on the coil and she was like nope you aren’t 🤣 turns out it was just floating around in there. But since its removal, I have managed to get pregnant (baby on the way). The best contraception that I’ve used that didn’t play with my hormones is the patch - not sure if you’ve looked into that, but I loved it and will be going back on it after I give birth! xx

I’m 28, just had my first daughter and before her I had the Mirina coil. Had no problem conceiving but it did make my period pains worse when I had it in (no bleeding just excruciating pain) so I had it out early. I’ve known others who it’s solved everything for them. I think it depends on the person but never heard of it effecting fertility.

I had a copper coil, only had it removed to have a baby (conceived within 3 months). I think they're great and currently waiting to have another one put in! Wouldn't have any other form of contraception now!

I had the coil and fell pregnant the month after I had it removed. Never heard of anyone ever claim it caused infertility x

I was told I was infertile and had previous IVF failure. I then had the Kyleena (smaller version of Mirena) coil fitted due to horrendous endometriosis symptoms. I had the coil removed in January this year to get ready for a laparoscopy and then another round of IVF but fell pregnant naturally in April. I wouldn’t take your MILs experience as gospel. I absolutely loved my coil, it’s been be only form of contraception that hasn’t made me gain weight or want to kill myself. It was a godsend for my pain, excessive bleeding and every other Endo symptom I had.
