Potty Training

Has anyone thought about or started potty training yet? We weren’t planning to start until next summer when she is 2, but the last couple of weeks my little girl has started grabbing her nappy if it’s dirty and saying wee wee and poo poo and going in to the bathroom. I’ve read before that when they are ready it should only take a matter of days, which is why I wanted to hold off, but feel like it’s maybe worth introducing a potty and toilet seat and seeing how she responds. I’m not putting any pressure on it yet, but any tips/books/methods people are using? Thanks 😊 x

Hi, childcare worker here 🙋🏽‍♀️ I personally would put her in pull-ups and do nappy changes sat on the potty. This way, you don’t have to “fully commit” to potty training, but you’re giving her practice of being sat on a potty while you’re changing her as usual, and while you’re there talking about trying to have a wee wee, then look in the potty together afterwards to see if there’s anything in there. This can be a really nice way to transition for both you and her ☺️

I'm currently potty training my 17 month old. Weve been going bare bottom for about a week and have seen some real progress. Best book I've read is the oh crap potty training book where the author advised the best the time start is between 20-30 months. She stresses it can be done under 20months but just makes the reader aware that they will require more support and it will take longer. Feel free to message me xx

We've introduced a potty, but just at nappy changes. Although my little girl will indicate if she wants to use it. she pointed to her nappy area and then her potty today and then had a poo on her potty for the first time. I think a slow introduction to it is best, and take little ones lead. Praise for sitting on the potty and not just if they do anything too x
