Humulin I question

Hi ladies, does anyone take Humulin I on an evening before bed? I was only put on this yesterday and when they showed me how to use the pen at the hospital, they said to do a tester shot first and watch the pen squirt,so I know there’s no air bubbles. The pen I’ve been given isn’t the same as the tester pen and I couldn’t for the life of me get it to squirt! A little bit of insulin was coming out so all I could do is set it to the dose I’ve been given, inject and hope for the best! I’ve done my fasting blood this morning and there’s no improvement, so now I don’t know if the insulin actually got into my system, whether the dose is just too low, or I’ve done it wrong 😂 does anyone else’s pen do the tester squirt? Did you see an immediate improvement with your next reading or does it take a few days? Thank you!

There's never an immediate improvement as it's trial and error trying to find the right dose. As long as you see insulin coming out, the air is out and honestly, even if it wasn't, the air that would enter your body is so miniscule it wouldn't affect you.

@Kira ah ok thank you, that’s helpful. I wasn’t really worried about the air affecting me, it was more if the air was taking up space in the needle then i wouldn’t be getting the full dose of insulin I think she explained. I’ll see how the readings are by Monday when I’m back at the diabetes clinic then, thank you!

I ended up changing my dosage several times until the fasting numbers came down.
