Learning to wipe

So, my five year old boy is nearly fully potty trained. It took us until recently to accomplish this due to him being a little delayed cognitively and speech-wise, but he's there and I'm super proud. The only consistent issue we are having at this point is how to teach him to wipe correctly after pooping. He doesn't really understand how to wipe while on the potty, or how to make sure he gets it all, or not get it all over the seat and his hands and thighs and well everything, and how not to use a whole roll of tp basically. Has anyone dealt with this or have any advice?

My son needs help with this too. 🫠 been potty trained for years but we always helped him.. should have done it sooner and now he doesn’t want to do it himself.

Same. Though I've heard it's normal at 5 yrs old. My twins have been potty trained since 20 and 23 mths. But they REFUSE to attempt to wipe their butts. My boy twin attempted once a year ago but refuses now. BOTH of them say they will do it when they are this or that age. -_- My brother has three boys. He told me he his sons watch him do it himself, and that worked for them. I don't know if I can do that. I tell them to go away when it's time for me to do that. My husband isn't able to show my son b/c he has a physical disability. I have had them practice with balloons taped to their little chairs a few times. It becomes a big, annoying thing, though. They get stupid silly, and it's just pointless.

lol commenting bc im also dealing with this but i have no advice honestly 😭

@Melissa I ended up having to do some tough love and tell my 5 year old I'm not wiping and walk away. I'll come back once I hear her doing it to help guide and check she got it all. We started this last year when she started TK and I still have to tell her to wipe more than once/ until it's clean.

A. My son has a problem wiping her correctly after pooping as well. I just show him the wipe and look method and that works. I would also advise maybe giving him actual flush of a wipes then toilet paper to use at home and maybe speak to the teacher about sending some to school if he is in school

Wolfoo has a video on wiping available on YouTube.
