And r u Hispanic or Latina? Me: um .. yes. Yes I am Me….. Dr office: that’s great!!! And what is your name and dob Me: answers Dr office: is this ur first pregnancy? Me: no, it’s my third Dr office: c section? Me: yes on the first pregnancy , second was vaginal delivery Dr office: wait so … a vbac? Me: yes…. Dr office: please hold I wanna make sure we can still help you. Waits 5 min Dr office: ok and what is your height and weight? Me: 5’2” 335 Dr. Office: one moment …. 5 second hold Dr office: yeahhhh…. I have called at least 6 other drs because I was looking for one with my insurance and NONE have ever pre screened me in this way. Has any other plus size mommy’s out here ever experienced this? And why are they asking if I’m Latina before they even ask me my name? Am I just being emotional for no reason? Is this normal?

I have had friends who have been declined by specific OBs because of their BMI. In their cases the pregnancy was deemed “high risk” from the get go due to their BMI despite an otherwise healthy pregnancy and it also dictated which hospital they were allowed to deliver at. 🤷🏼‍♀️ not saying it’s right or I agree with it but that has been what my friends have experienced in the past!

That’s wild I’ve never been asked all those questions on the scheduling phone call before

Sounds like medical insurance policies have changed recently. 😳😧 I'm sure they are using those screening questions because their insurance requires them too. 😕

I had an appointment at a new OB office since i had moved recently. My daughter was 3 months old and I had just found out I was pregnant. From the moment I walked in the nurse looked me up and down and rolled her eyes. My BP was high because of how anxious I was and when the dr came in and told the nurse to use a different cuff she pinched my arm fat and said no that won’t work. Then I was asked if I was getting an abortion bc they were so close together and how bad it would look if i went through with the pregnancy. I left the office in tears and then they had the audacity to call my phone and say why did i leave so upset and that they wouldn’t be able to take me due to my BMI and my back to back pregnancy. I decided to stick with my regular OB even if the office is an hour and a half away.

@sarah wow that is so awful. I’m so sorry you had to go through that. I find it crazy cuz like SOMEONE has to see us. It’s gotta come out one way or another. It’s crazy really

@Anna thing is after at least half a dozen calls to other ob this pleas the only one doing this. It’s so crazy to me

@Dory neither had I. What does being Latina have to do with my pregnancy? It was so awkward from the get go. Like how is that more important to you than my name?

@Amanda I’ve always been high risk due to having an incompetent cervix and most of my visits are always with my high risk dr. It’s absurd to me because if that’s the case, then what really is the point of all the questions. They rarely even see you to begin with.

I hate how society still uses BMI as a health indicator. I'm so sorry you were declined healthcare for this. Honestly though, it sounds like they're not a good fit for you. And you deserve a better place to look after you and your baby.

@Bianca yeah I have NEVER been asked my race / ethnicity over a phone call before that seems way off to me.

@Bianca it’s absolutely ridiculous. i haven’t had not one health issue during either of my pregnancies and actually lost weight when i was pregnant with my first 🙃 but i really hope you report these people or at least leave a review.

I would report them. Either way you dodged a bullet. Sad you had to experience this but at least now you know what it is with them

@sarah most certainly will. So many plus size mommies have healthy easy pregnancies

@✨Wis 🇭🇹 you’re totally right. At least they didn’t waste my time.

@Lex thank you. It’s a shame really but I’m hearing I should be grateful that they showed their true face now and not later when it’s too hard to change doctors

@Dory before my name… so weird!
