Dietician!

What to expect from a dietician call? We have one at the end of this month and have no idea what to expect! What questions did you ask? Early weaning? Any advice would be helpful!

If it’s your first appointment from what I recall from ours it was basically going over her symptoms and what we’d already done like cutting out the dairy and then basically discuss the plan going forward in terms of how long they should be dairy free before starting the milk ladder etc. We were given the go ahead to wean early at 4m due to her reflux but we opted against that as she wasn’t ready

@Jess thank you! I'll have to find my list of symptoms that he had at the start! Was there any questions that you asked at all? I'm literally so lost in it all! X

Oh god in all honesty I can’t really remember as it was last year now but I feel like everything got covered in the appointment. I think I asked at one of the appointments how it would work with weaning as I always assumed we’d start reintroducing dairy when she started weaning but it turns out they recommend them being dairy free for at least 9m I think we were told before starting that

Might not be a helpful answer but for us after 2 different dieticians we are no closer to knowing anything The first said they ask people with non ige symptoms to do the milk challenge at home bur as my girl has ige symptoms we were signed off due to being unable to do that The second company haven't been much better just told me due to multiple allergies hold off on the milk ladder until about 14-15 months and that if our blood test results show as ige they can't help us 🙈 I remember going through her symptoms and being told wean dairy free etc but not much else if I'm honest

@Emma-louise we have already tried the milk challenge, gp suggested to do it prior the appointment and to discuss results - we unfortunately failed, went back to screaming, very mucusy poops and explosive nappies☹️ I'm so sorry you're not any closer to any answers! Maybe she's going to have to be dairy free for the rest of her life? X

Ah so yes they will probably give you information on the milk ladder from a year old I've read how some dieticians are great but others unfortunately aren't helpful at all! They should be there for any questions you have whilst weaning etc We did early weaning also due to reflux and small baby so you can definitely ask about that if you'd like We are hoping eventually she will be allergy free but it can take time unfortunately

@Emma-louise I have a small baby (9th centile) which is why I asked about early weaning. Did you find that early weaning helped? I've read that you shouldn't early wean due to digestive issues that it can cause which scares me x

So my girl was born on 0.4th centile and now at 9 months old she's made it to 9th centile It has helped but they do say don't overload with to much food as baby's weight should go gradually not rocket up if that makes sense My son was also born 0.4th centile didn't have allergies and we weaned him at around 4 months too and his had no issues with his digestive system due to it Not that I'm saying it doesn't happen but for me both children have done well with weaning early and it definitely helped reflux issues Aslong as baby can sit in the highchair comfortably without falling to the side and doesn't put their tongue to push food away it's usually okay but definitely speak to dietician about it first

@Emma-louise yeah I definitely will speak to them first! Thank you so much!
