Flying whilst pregnant

Hi, I will be 19 weeks pregnant when we go on holiday. Do I need a 'fit to fly' certificate... Just seen it somewhere, and it's made me panic.

I would get one off your midwife just incase your airline request it. Different airlines have different policies over fit to fly but having one to hand I guess is best incase it’s ever questioned how many weeks you are

Double check with the airline (Google pregnancy and airline - that’s all I done when I checked Ryanair). I believe most don’t require “fit to fly” letter until 26+ weeks.

I don’t think so, not until you’re over 32 weeks I think!

It varies per airline. I’ve flown a lot and haven’t seen any require it at 19 weeks but worth checking to be sure.

I think you don’t need one until 28 weeks

I asked my midwife (will be flying between 18 and 19 weeks) and they advised I didn’t need one :) just to stay hydrated and move around on the plane x

No needed. I flew two weeks ago and my midwife said to use compression socks, walk up and down as much as possible and stay hydrated 🥰

Yeah you don't need one until 28 weeks, don't worry

No need - flew to the USA & Australia in my last pregnancy and didn’t need anything. Most airlines will request from 28 weeks/third trimester. It’s advisable to take maternity notes with you.

You shouldn’t do but check with your airline . You need to asked your GP for one as my local midwifery trust was told like 3 weeks ago they are no longer allowed to give them out. X

i flew to turkey at 20w in my last pregnancy, i spoke to my midwife about it and she said she can’t recommend i go but she can’t stop me, she would recommend an isle seat and flight socks so i can get up for regular walks, i don’t think they do fit to fly at this stage in pregnancy x

I asked at my 16 week appointment, we’re going away 2 days after our 20 week appointment and the advice was ‘you may as well have one with you, but you really shouldn’t need it’

Thank you all for your comments. I think I will ring my midwife and see what they say for reassurance more than anything

I rang my GP, she said all good to fly at this stage just check airline 😁 Worry over 🙈
