Group strep B

I can’t figure out how to search in this group for previous posts but my midwife’s just called to say the hospital have emailed her saying I have group strep b she said it’d only be an issue if I was having a vaginal birth which I was swaying towards an elective c section anyway as I’m having my tubes tied but my anxiety is SKY HIGH because I started googling 😩😩😩 anyone else got this?

I have strep b too! I’ve been told that I’ll just be on an antibiotic drip during labour (vaginal birth) and that plenty of women have it but it’s not routinely tested for x

Yea like 3 in 4 women around the world have it. You’re just given antibiotics and they monitor the baby afterwards if vaginal. In Canada we test for GBS at 36/37 weeks so we’re prepared ahead with antibiotics but I guess UK doesn’t. This is one of the reasons why they want to induce labour if waters break. The risks that they’re talking about happen but they’re still pretty rare

I have this too! Midwife recommended I didn’t google it as she said everything is way more doom and gloom than it actually is and that 99% of women will have no issues if they have group B strep, but they give anti biotics just to be on the safe side. I’ve spoke to several midwife’s and they’ve all reassured me it’s super common and nothing to be scared of! Antibiotics are just a step they take as prevention, same as the vaccine for MMR and RSV etc:))

I had it with my son and I just had to go on antibiotics when my waters broke x

Ok thanks everyone! Didn’t realise how common it is! Feel better now xx

I’ve got it too, but having c section. I also googled and freaked out but midwife reassured me it’s very common but not routinely swabbed for. Xx

I had it in my last pregnancy but was due a c section anyway. They told me if my waters broke that I would need to go in and be put on antibiotics but if not it wouldn’t affect the baby at all x
