Birthcontrol injection

Please tell me your experiences with the birth control (depo) injection? Does it work? Does it hurt? Did it cause you to get pregnant a second time? What are the side effects of taking the depo (birth control injection? Thank you in advance to anyone who replies. X

I’ve been on it two separate times. Once for two years, the other time for 3 months. The first time I gained 60lbs and had pretty bad acne from it. I also suffered an ectopic pregnancy and struggled with infertility for two years following my ectopic. Almost a decade after I got on depo the first time they’ve come out and said depo can have an effect on fertility. I’ve tried all birth controls except nexplanon, and depo was the 2nd worst (worse being the Skyla iud as it migrated out of my uterus and I now have to have surgery).

Oh wow, thank you for telling me that! I didnt realise it caused weight gain, or fertility issues so thank you for letting me know. X

Also it weakens your bones, I snapped my fibula in half roller skating while on depo. I highly do not recommend depo.

Were you thinking of getting it? I have had it before & tbh, I wasn’t as bad for me. Just you take every 3months & it does stop your period completely so you wouldn’t know when your on your period or to be ovulating. 🙂 xo

I bled for 9 months straight with it

I had been on it for four years then I was on and off and I stopped completely last year. It doesn’t hurt if you can handle needles. I purposely got off over time I gained a lot of weight then I lost a lot. It made me really tired. it was messing with my hormones bad I then developed depression. Didn’t have a period for a long time just spotting. It definitely took almost a year or two for me to be able to track my period, I had been on it for so long I didn’t know how to track it and now I’m pregnant with my first. I wouldn’t recommend it tbh

I had the worst experience with the shot I was crazy and hormonal and broke out really bad! I felt my hormones were all out of wack and I wasn’t myself at all. The IUD has not been that way at all and is just as if not more effective and also just a one time thing where I don’t have to be worried about it ever again

I haven’t had it personally but one of my best friends got it and after the first shot she was EXTREMELY depressed and gained more weight that she has ever had in her life. Not to sound like I am shaming about weight. It was just a huge damper on her already being depressed and not being able to fit into any of her clothes anymore. She didn’t work for months. When she went to the doctor for her second shot she didn’t want to even get it but sounded like the doctor pressured her into getting the second shot. She didn’t get another shot and her mental health has skyrocketed since then. I’ll never be getting that shot!

I was on this after I had my son I only got it done twice n then I never went back if it wasn’t for putting on so much weight I’d have stayed on it as my periods were so heavy n painful before but then I never bled once while on it it also made me really moody 😂 but this is just my experience I know someone else who was on it and they never had any side effects xx

I'm currently on it and to be honest apart from the weight gain I've had no issues I've had the implant which caused cysts on my ovaries The pill I fell pregnant on and now this I have a day ir 2 where I spot inconsistently in the 3 months and that's all for bleeding

I loved my depo injection. Stopped my period, had for 5 years and didn’t get pregnant. Also easy to inject yourself if you choose to do it that way. I stopped it for a break then went on the pill, got pregnant on the pill. Going back onto the injection now
