Second pregnancy

I have just found out I am pregnant with my second child. I am just about to qualify as a registered nurse and commence my first post. I am terrified about telling my new employer, also I am not sure if I will be entitled to maternity pay

You don’t have to tell your employer that you’re pregnant until the end of the 15th week before your due date so basically when you’re 25 weeks pregnant

Also, as much as it’s terrifying to tell them they also can’t fire you because you’re pregnant because it will fall under discrimination

And btw, congratulations 🤍

Thank you 🥰. With my daughter I was in full time employment so didn’t have this worry x

I started my job in early September 22 and found out I was pregnant 2 weeks into my new role 😫 unfortunately was not entitled to maternity pay. You can check online if you will be. I believe it’s something like having worked for them for 26 weeks before the 15th week before your child is due. I was entitled to government maternity allowance however x

Hi love, huge congrats! I found out I was pregnant with my second the day before I started a new job! I was a total mess. I don’t qualify for SMP but I do qualify for Maternity Allowance. I suggest going on to the Gov website, searching for Maternity Allowance and fill in the eligibility questionnaire and it will show you how much you'll get per month. You can also get Child Benefit for a second child which brings it up to around £160ish a month I think (you can check that on the Gov website also) Try not to worry, you are super protected by laws, so start your new job and work hard (like I know you will doing such a wonderful job such as nursing!) and it will all work out as it should xxx
