Gestational Diabetes in late pregnancy

Hi there I’m a first time mum 37+3 with a baby measuring over 39 weeks. Have been booked in for an early induction as have been told this could happen due to gestational Diabetes. How long do the results take normally to come back. I had a blood test on the 29th. Since finding out this is a possibility all I’ve craved is cake. Is this normal?🤣 (If I do have diabetes they said they would bring the induction forward - meaning this week and want to be mentally prepared)

I had my lb in January and I had Gestational Diabetes for the last half of my pregnancy. I got my results within five days not including the weekend. Craving cake is absolutely normal haha good luck cc

I had my diabetes check recently, and they rang me the next day to tell me I had it. I've got my appointment about it today, actually.

@Anna ah thank you I wasn’t sure if it was just all in my head thinking I needed it and now I’ve convinced myself I do x

@Darryl was yours the glucose test or blood test! Good luck! X

@Charlotte no it isn’t lol. I found I could have a Freddo or small slice of cake if I had a chunk of cheese first then went for a walk. It honestly wasn’t as bad as I thought. I managed to keep my levels under control purely by diet xx

@Charlotte I had a thumb prick, bloods taken, that sugary drink, two hour wait and then another set of bloods taken.

Just a bit of advice you don’t have to be induced because of the diabetes. They said my baby was estimated to be weighing at 14lbs and wanted to induce me at 37 weeks. I asked to be rescanned the following day and she was then estimated 10lbs. I refused the induction (agreed to be scanned often but weight was always so different) and she came naturally at 39 weeks only weighing 5lb 6oz. I found having chocolate cake before the dog walk really helped my blood sugars also! But I would crave it so much because I couldn’t have it 🤣 Completely up to you but just wanted to share x

I got diagnosed at 35 weeks, I can believe they don't test earlier 😡 next pregnancy I'm going to monitor my blood sugar myself and eat keto because it's not worth gaining 50lbs and feeling like crap again

@C wish I had read this before my induction with my first lo in Jan he was estimated to be big and wasn’t too x

@Alina I am now. I don't know most of my family medical history, I never got tested for diabetes in general and have always been very careful about sugars and carbs anyway. But now I'm definitely pre disposed. Probably all the Panera Mac and cheese I ate early pregnancy lol

@Tiffany GD isn't due to diet. It's from the placenta so you can't do anything to properly avoid it If that makes u feel any better x

@Christina oh, I didn't have it with my first at 20 but at 30 prior to my 2nd I went through a depressive Mac and cheese and beer phase and assumed I fucked up my blood sugar. Cool

I had my test one afternoon last year and got the results back early next morning. Told me baby was estimating 11-14lbs and was basically refused a c section ! He weighed 7lbs 15. The midwife weighed him before that weight was confirmed and told me he was 8lbs 😂 Go in open minded when they tell you baby is weighing big as it's not always the case x
