At home GTT test?

I’ve been booked to take a glucose tolerance test at home and was just wondering if anyone else has had to do this at home rather than at the hospital? With my first I went to the hospital to have it done. Quite nervous to have to do it myself tbh.

When they say at home, do they mean the midwife will come to you to do your bloods? In my first pregnancy I went to have mine at the midwife clinic and she let me go home and came to do my 2nd lot of bloods at the house. It was so much nicer than having to sit in the hospital or clinic x

Nope unfortunately not… my midwife told me they’re sending me a kit which I have to do myself. A finger prick, then the sugary drink, relax for 2 hours and then another finger prick. Just seems a bit odd to me as I’ve not seen anyone else having to do this 🤦‍♀️

I haven't heard of this but I would much prefer to do it at home (not a fan of blood tests). Are you worried about the finger prick?

That’s really different to how mine was done. I went to the GTT unit, they did do finger prick bloods but also intravenous bloods. The finger prick bloods was to give them an initial idea of numbers but my results were based off my intravenous bloods. I would query how accurate your results would be based of finger prick bloods, because mine were high pre and post fasting but my intravenous was below, so I was discharged as not having GD. Good luck!

Ah, that is really different then, I wish I could have mine done like that!! Perhaps whatever your risk factors are that mean you need to have the test are borderline and your trust offers that type of test in that instance? I’m sure your midwife will be able to clarify why it’s don’t like this if you ask lovely x
