Potty training toddler

Has anyone with a toddler potty trained or attempted to potty train their little one? We have a 24 month old and I’m not sure whether to try to start it or wait until after baby arrives. I’m due 3rd October. Any potty training tips appreciated!

we're in a similar boat - my daughter turn's 2 on the 5th october, new baby is due on the 2nd. we've got her a potty and she sits on it sometimes but she hasn't actually used it yet, even though she has shown some signs of readiness (she often tells us when she's done a poo, she pulls her nappy off sometimes). i'm leaning towards waiting until after baby is here in case we do really well with it and then all the change causes a regression😅 we have a great book called 'no more nappies' which she loves reading xx

We are on day 3 of the 3 day method, 2nd attempt. He is 2y5mo

That is entirely up to you. Where I'm from we potty train as early as baby sits so way before 1yr. It is really unusual to meet any 2yo who is in nappies. But I am aware in England it is very different.

My 2yr old is potty trained. One thing that worked for me is getting her a book about potty training which she still likes to read now even though she’s been trained over 6months now. Potty training charts and stickers work as well. Good luck

We potty trained my daughter when she was 25 months old. I read the 'oh crap' potty training book and then followed that method. If you can do it you'll probably be glad you did, so you're not dealing with 2 different nappies! Good luck xx

We are 3 days into potty training, our 27-month little girl. The latest research apparently recommends doing it 18-30 months. I have been recently convinced to give it a try by the Health Visitors at the 27-month health check review. Really good source & up to date info: https://eric.org.uk/

@Melissa which book was this?

@Sam yes, ordered that book today! Hoping it’ll be good!

We did the "oh crap" method too in may, lo is 3 in a couple of weeks. Really recommend the method but tbh I would wait now. If you potty train too close to the arrival of a new baby they tend to regress.

Having them purchase their own stuff, potty, stools, underwear etc. Books about potty training for them, start by putting them on too. Stickers or other reward system for wees or poos on the potty.

@Laura I didn't even read it all, I think I read as far as I needed to know what the steps were and I didn't go any further. Good luck. I think I have the digital version if you want me to email it on to you? X

@Laura It’s called Potty Superstar - there’s one for girls and one for boys https://www.amazon.co.uk/Potty-Superstar-training-Toddler-Triumphs/dp/1526381516

My boy is 25/26 months and not ready yet, baby girl due when he’ll be 27 month x

@Sam ah ok. It’s ok thank you, I bought it yesterday. X
