Pre eccplamsia

Hiya can anyone tell me exactly what preeclampsia is? I’m high risk, protein in wee so waiting for it to be tested . I’m 36 weeks and stopped taking aspirin now. I know what to look out for symptom wise but what actually does it do to me and baby if I have it? Thanks

It’s high blood pressure basically. Mostly harmless but can in rare cases have serious risks for you or baby. You could have fits which are harmful to you & dangerous to baby (rare). Also in some women, baby grows slower and therefore is smaller than should be and may have to come earlier leading to risks. Most of the time no issues, just regular check ups & things. Not sure if there are other conditions of the back of preeclampsia x

Normally when you have the baby it goes away. I was in hospital for 8 days in total having to have baby early due to pre eclampsia and had to be monitored regularly so did baby and she was born on the small side but all healthy and birth was fine. I had to take blood pressure meds and just finished them this week and had to go GP weekly for a blood pressure check x

I had pre eclampsia and I pretty much was in and out of hospital and my BP was out of control. I was on the highest medication they could give, and in the end had an emergency c section. My little girl was absolutely fine and there was no concern throughout however, it was me they was worried about. It puts you at risk of strokes, heart attack, fits etc. One thing I hated about being put in the medication was I wasn’t informed of the affects on my little girl. Because my dosage was so high when my little girl was born she was having withdrawals from my medication, she kept shaking for around a week afterwards, I wasn’t told this and was pretty upset considering I avoided allll tablets during pregnancy xx
