nope, dont eat for 12 hrs prior , they give you something to drink you sit for an hr then they test ittt

You should have been given instructions with a time that you need to fast from. You go in, have bloods taken, drink the drink, and then wait 2 hours and have bloods taken again. Then go home

you could bring food with you if you think you'll be really hungry afterwards. for me, i had a blood test when i arrived, then drank the drink (within 10 minutes), then waited for 2 hours, then another blood test. i did feel quite hungry and a bit weak afterwards so if you think that could be the case for you, i'd bring something with you to eat after xx

Definitely take something to eat after the 2 hr blood test because you would’ve been fasting for 12 hrs. I was super hungry. Unless you live close by or can quickly grab something after the test.

Totally skipped it. You’re just drinking chemicals. I opted to get a meter. I checked my blood sugar and tracked my food for a week.

@Meagan everything is a chemical 🙃

No you can't eat for 8 hours prior to your appt. Some places are different on what they want you to do. You can only drink water prior

As you can tell, the guidance can vary between areas. You need to contact midwife and ask what is expected in your area otherwise you could cause issues on the day if for example you haven't fasted for as long as they ask and have listened to somebody on here who from somewhere different.

Have a snack for afterwards as you will be hungry!

@Meagan I did this too for my 3rd. The drink makes me so sick! Most doctors will also give the option of a substitute, like a certain amount of OJ or apple juice or something! I agree though. That drink is terrible.

I didn’t mind the drink 😂 I would take something to occupy you in the time inbetween tests

You don’t have to do it, can monitor blood sugar a few days if concerned

as a lab tech i can tell you (1 hr GTT) you are able to eat. for the 3 hr GTT you have to be fasting and can only drink water same with the 2 hr GTT

@Meagan they wouldnt even give me that option😩😩! I tried to substitute the drink with orange juice (doula rec. closest in sugar)
