Did you wash every single piece of fruit and veg throughout pregnancy?

Honestly, I rarely wash any fruits and don't think I did while pregnant.

I never wash fruit. Pregnant, for my child or otherwise.

I always do pregnant or not. My husband rarely does though! I don’t wash citrus fruits though (unless using the peel for baking). You will be fine

I wash all fruit, religiously! But the odd unwashed piece of fruit here and there will be fine, don’t worry

I don’t think I’ve ever eaten unwashed fruits. I wash everything with water and a cap of white vinegar and there’s always little dead bugs floating in the bowl after. I’ve found ladybugs in my grapes, an earwig in my banana stems once. Plus all the pesticides they spray on the fruit you definitely want to get off. I will say I don’t wash oranges bananas and grapefruit though bc they all get peeled so you should be fine.

I'll be honest. No not at all. I wash the apples I get from the fruit and veg shop because they feel like they have like a waxy coating on them but other than that I don't bother.

Yes, pregnant or not. Even the ones with peels.

I've only ever washed fruit or veg that has obvious mud/dirt on it. I didn't even think to wash it during pregnancy

I always wash fruit and veg whether pregnant or not, but realistically the chances of something happening because you didn't wash it are LOW. It's just a precaution. An unwashed grapefruit isn't going to do anything, don't worry :) enjoy your fruity goodness!

Here’s the biggest question, IS IT ORGANIC???

If it’s not I’d especially clean it. I’m no room to judge because I didn’t really wash fruit or eat organic the first 24 years of my life lol but if your worried about washing it definitely don’t look what they spray on all crops that aren’t organic :/ it sucks and I hate our country everyday for it. It’s not even what they spray it’s what it does to our bodies and mainly our endocrine brain barrier..that no body knows about cause their just used to feeling like this shit their whole lives😩😢

When I was pregnant I was more on point than ever tbh, so yeah I did. I wash fruit for my little boy weekly. If it makes it easier just do it all at once, once a week.

@Korissa @Izzy hey girlies I just wanted to mention cause I read your comments about fruits with peels not being a problem. So actually that’s the biggest pesticide/herbaside misconception these days because farms spray the seed as it’s going into the ground (there’s videos on YouTube). This means the chemicals they spray on the seed grows within the crop and works its way into basically the “ genetic makeup” of the fruit or veggie. Because bugs and weeds are not wanted in commercial farming from the second it’s planted:/ if they sprayed our fruits and veggies with the herbicides and pesticides once it’s already grown it would be to late. So literally anything not organic is just grown contaminated ya know? Hence why I tell everyone their biggest switch should be organic flour!!! Ladies yall have no idea how much just even changing to the organic generic Walmart brand of flour to make baked goods changed so much for me!

but you don't eat the outside of grapefruit, you're fine. if it's a peeled fruit, I don't wash. otherwise I do

@Lindsey it’s not just sprayed on a peel.. it’s grown within the fruit. This is a very common misconception! I thought so to until I started organic gardening lol

Interesting, I thought everyone rinsed their fruit, sometimes I use vinegar for a quick soak and sometimes I don’t if I’m in a hurry. As a few others said I don’t wash my oranges or grapefruit unless I’m going to use the peel.

Thanks everyone! My biggest worry was toxoplasmosis etc. and the thought of fruit just rolling around all over the place between harvest and home, the number of people handling it and where their grubby hands have been 👀 haha although i know the risk is very small, I just knew it would be so helpful to hear all these comments and put things in perspective. I never used to wash fruit or veg myself until I really thought about it, but then I realised and have been doing it for years but particularly now in pregnancy I like to be extra careful. As for not eating grapefruit peel... true of course, but handling the outside then cutting through the peel into the fruit spreads whatever is on the outside, that's my thinking. Regarding organic produce... eeeek that's a whooooole other topic. I can't even think about that right now 😅

@Sami I wasn't referencing organic vs not organic. the op said she ate an unwashed grapefruit, so I was responding to that

I wash both organic and not organic unless I'm peeling it

@Lindsey right but wouldn’t the reason people are washing it is to get chemicals off? I thought that’s what people were referring to in the comments..

@Sami I didn't read the comments, just responded to the op. weather or not chemicals are sprayed, you should wash any fruit you are eating. it's touched by so many hands. exception being a peel you aren't going to eat
