Gestational Diabetes - Cravings

I’m 32+3 and was diagnosed with GD at 28 weeks. I’ve been really good with my diet and readings over the past few weeks. I’ve come down with a head cold the last few days and feeling rubbish. When I’m ill, I just want to eat whatever I want and not have to make/cook. I’m seriously craving shit food right now for the ease and comfort of how I’m feeling 😩 Does anyone else get or feel like this during their GD journey?

I was like this, I ended up eating what I wanted (I have a history of an eating disorder) and when the consultant basically told me off for it I told her "me eating what I want is better than not eating at all" so she put me on Metformin at breakfast time to help control my sugars, also, the odd blip in your sugars is fine as long as it's not constantly higher than 8, that's what I was told anyway

Aww I feel this. I had GD, diagnosed at 17 weeks so it was a long slog (although once I'd worked out the foods I could tolerate it really wasn't so bad). Have you looked at the Gestational Diabetes UK website? It's got plenty of free recipes (including deserts!) and they always kept my numbers in a good place. As for not needing to cook whilst you're poorly, I found things like a small amount of dark chocolate, OPPO ice cream, Perkier protein bars, strawberries with cream, wholegrain pasta with cheese, peanut butter on Ryvita... easy and quick foods that I could make/eat mindlessly and they didn't effect my numbers negatively. Hope you start feeling better soon 🧡

Gestationaldiabetes.co.uk have plenty of sweet treat recipes including a brownie and Terry's chocolate orange cheesecake! All self paired xx

You have to pay a membership to access to recipes 😕

With my GD as long as I wasn’t constantly eating rubbish the consultant was absolutely fine with it. She just told me that when doing my blood sugars put in my notes that I had eaten badly (donut, Big Mac or whatever) that way she could see it was my diet x

Thanks everyone. I ended up making an omelette and having some snack a jacks. A maccies or Greggs would have been nice but I avoided. Got some meals coming up in September so will allow myself to enjoy those x

If there's a time to ask for help without guilt, it's when you are pregnant and especially pregnant and poorly! Ask those around you to bring you some food so you don't have to cook, but just ask them to bare in mind sugar content etc. feel better soon!

Thank you, my hubby was at football today and I don’t have any family or friends around. So it would have been an Uber eats but, I was good. Everything feels much harder when you’re unwell too

@Maneek not all of the recipes need a membership just some of them x

When I ate shit I just went for a good walk afterwards or bounced on my ball this usually got it down and if it didn’t it would only be a little higher

Any thing with peanut butter or nuts in is great! I’m type2 diet controlled
