Toilet/potty

I know there has been so many posts on here already about potty and/or toilet training but here’s another 🤣. So I had no plans to really start until we come back from our holiday in October because most people I know say to wait until around 2.5 and it makes the whole process much easier. However, over the past few days my son is looking uncomfortable and pulling at his nappy (this is before he does a pee or poo). I think he knows it’s coming but when I ask him about the toilet he shouts no and starts crying. I’ve got a potty and the little ladders with the seat. Also, when I ask him if he’s done a poo he shakes his head and says no. What can I do about this? It’s like he knows but doesn’t want to even attempt to sit on the toilet or potty. Does anyone have any advice? I kind of wanted to strike while the irons hot and he’s clearly aware of his elimination needs but I don’t want to push it either. Should I wait a little longer?

Doesn’t sound like he’s ready my son is exactly the same I just keep talking positively about the potty keep reading stories about potty and toilet try not to talk negatively about nappy changes eg smelly poo. Let him watch you and dad use the toilet. One day he’ll start to get more interested in the potty/toilet don’t rush it otherwise might scare them and create a fear x

Thanks Tanya ❤️ xx

Yeah we don't ask about trying to sit on it. We usually bring the potty out at bath time for him to sit on while we blow-dry his hair but his choice to do it or not. I've started having him with me when I'm going to the toilet so he can see that I'm using it and even talk about hearing the wee 🤦🏼‍♀️ (the things we do!) then last week at a play area I went to the toilet so he had to come with me and he asked to go. I sat him on the toilet after I was done and he did a wee! I feel like it may have been a fluke but even so. He's now asking to go every now and then and wants to wash his hands. I'm probably going to wait until October half term to try him at the earliest though so I'm off work to do it myself rather than the grandparents.
