So mine was absolutely perfect for a year and a couple of months then all HELL broke loose. I was having periods for 6 weeks at a time. 3 days off and then started again. Made me so miserable and put on loads of weight. Everyone is different but that was my experience

I've had 3. First one stopped all my periods. No spotting or anything, 2nd one I spotted for a little while then they stopped the 3rd I just spotted loads. But they are different for everyone. As I was younger in my late teens early 20s it was great as I didn't have to remember to take my pill.

@Ellie I’ve just got the copper coil and I promise it isn’t as bad as you think. The period is heavy I won’t lie but there’s no hormones and the procedure isn’t bad at all

I used to run a coil/implant clinic. We had both good and bad stories, if it doesn't agree with you, it doesn't agree with you and you can have it removed. But a lot of people get along really well with it.

@Ellie coils aren't as bad as people make out and they do offer numbing to the area if you want (not by needle so DW) and coils last longer than implants. Copper coil you can have either a 5 year one or 10 and mirena coil is now licensed for 8 years contraception and 5 years for heavy bleeding. I just got my mirena fitted for the first time and even though I have been there when people get them fitted for years, I was scared of the pain but actually found it okay. Ofc everyone is different, but with the coil, if you've given birth naturally the entrance of your womb will still be open so it'll be easier

I had one and had it 3 x over, was the best form of contraception I found with no side affects (for me) had no periods the whole time on them expect the odd very very light one 😊 x

I’ve tried pretty much all the contraceptives out there including the implant and mirena and copper coils. The implant was fine but it made me really hungry so I put on a lot of weight. Ended up removing it after just under 2 years because of this. The mirena was incredibly painful when I had it inserted. Not the insertion part itself but once it was in. I couldn’t even walk to the door and had to lay down in the waiting room for a bit. I lived about 5min walk from where I had it done and ended up having to get a taxi. It then caused lots of issues when having sex, making it painful for me and my partner would complain that he could feel the strings. So I had that taken out after about a year as well. With the copper coil the initial pain was just as bad and it ended up falling out on its own a few months after

I personally had an awful experience with it. I was bleeding for like 21 days straight, would have 3 days of no bleeding and then start again. I was miserable on it

Iv had three, starting when I was 16. The first two were perfect, after a year of the third one it was awful!

I’ve had 4 over 10+ years, they stopped my periods which was great and why I stayed on them since I was a teenager. Since having them removed though I have noticed a huge difference in my mental health and do wish I had tried coming off birth control sooner because of that. I know girls who had a completely opposite experience and the implant made them come on for weeks at a time so it really is a very different experience for everybody! Great if you’re rubbish at remembering to take the pill everyday like me :)

I had the implant and it made me so tired I would fall asleep by 7pm regardless of where I was, out for a meal, with company, at the pub etc. it was like when you are a child and want to watch a film but it’s too late and your eyelids just get heavier and heavier no matter what you do. It was horrible, doctors didn’t believe it was the implant and ran numerous tests which all came back normal. I had the implant removed and within a month I was back to normal (night owl!)

I had two. One at 16 and one at about 23. Both terrible. I thought being older it may have been better but both times I bled constantly. Like no joke, everyday for a year. It never settled. Great as a contraceptive unless you don't mind period sex, but I'm not into that so... No.
