Potty training tips šŸš½

My son is 1.5 years and always wants to go without his nappy. He is very smart & seems to understand a lot of what I say and do what I ask but only says a few words at the moment and Iā€™m wondering if itā€™ll be a good idea for a potty ? Im concerned that if itā€™s not 100% consistent like if we go out for the day and not chilling at home where he can wonder around without his nappy will this confuse him? Just looking for some advice & tips please šŸ’™

Try it and give it a go all kids are different. I used a box of random toys and books to keep mine entertained on potty. I still use pull ups at night on my 3 year old

@Sharon Iā€™m just trying to think how I can encourage him to know thatā€™s what itā€™s for, and I have no clue when heā€™s about to do a wee so I couldnā€™t rush him there before he does it so I just donā€™t know how to go about it This is my first child šŸ„°

Yeah I would go for it, I started with my oldest at 15 months and it was a great decision. I followed the Montessori method which recommends starting from 12-18 months old. I highly recommend looking it up and trying it especially for this age.

We started introducing sitting on the potty at 7 months old! We take every diaper off in the bathroom right in front of the toilet! My son is 20months old now and heā€™ll pee or at least try to everytime heā€™s sat on a toilet (: we havenā€™t gotten serious about expecting him to tell us everytime but I can say from our experience my son was more communicative about it than me & my partner were receptive to it, like if we buckled down in full potty training mode weā€™d likely be outta diapers by now already aahhahaha weā€™ve used pull ups since my son was 10 months old tho (:

My son is 15 months and runs to the bathroom to sit on a little potty when I go or my other son who Iā€™m training. They each have their own. The younger one understands to flush and wash hands as well. He even occasionally comes to me with a diaper when he poops then climbs up onto the table to be changed. If I wasnā€™t overwhelmed by training my older one Iā€™d see Iā€™d he wanted pull ups. So Iā€™d start with seeing if he wants to sit C with clothes on and is interested in the potty routine. If so then you can try without clothes. Or just have him sit when you do and see if he understands

You can always put underwear under a pull-up. Thst way he still realizes heā€™s wet but if you are out and about it wonā€™t make a mess. I also put puppy pads in the car seat for her to sit on. I carry around a wet bag with flushable wipes, a foldable potty seat, Estes undies/pants/clothes, and a pull up just in case.

@Grace omg great!! Thankyou so much I will have a look

@Parker 又 aww thatā€™s really good. Do you take off nappy and sit him on a potty or the toilet ? Do you only keep it to bathroom only? I know some people have potty in other places than toilet

@Julia okay thatā€™s great advice thankyou Iā€™m going to give it a go !

@Kristian Larger yeah I did buy him some pants so I will definitely start putting them under his pull up , thatā€™s a good idea ! Thankyou

@Connie we have a toilet cover with the steps up to a baby seat! So we do it on our actual toilet in our actual bathroom! Our hope is to have his brain at least make it to the bathroom in the future even if he doesnā€™t use words to tell us

Read the book ā€œoh crap potty trainingā€. It will help you recognize the signs of readiness and guide you on how to do it. My daughter was ready around that same age but we delayed as I was pregnant. We waited til I had the baby and things settled a bit and she trained at 25 months. She caught on quick and has been diaper free 4 months now (except at night). She still has accidents sometimes but itā€™s normal and expected and you just have to make some adjustments when it happens.
