Potty Training Suggestoins/Advice!?

So, I need some suggestions or advice on potty training my puppy, she just turned 7 months on the 13th… we want her to be inside with baby wen he gets here in 2 months so we rly want to get her potty trained asap… we tried kennel wen we first got her and it did not work whatsoever, even wen we did take her out every 1-2hrs, she would either potty in her kennel or the floor if we didn’t have her in the kennel, she is currently outside on a chain Bcs it seems like we can’t get her potty trained and I absolutely hate seeing her like that wen she was sposed to be an inside dog… so, plz again, suggestions or advice would be helpful!! My puppy just for the cuteness 💜

All that’s ever worked for me is grab them and take them out as they go. Every time. Even if they’re peeing as you carry them outside. Then say how good they are when they’re doing their business out there.

Ok she would be a lil heavy to carry outside lol @Margeaux (margo)

My boys are wee wee pad trained. What worked for me with my 1st one was to let him have water and then about 10-20 mins later put him where you want him to go. It's repetitive, but eventually they get it

@Emily lol yeah I’ve pulled dogs out too, less effective when they’re busy

Ya @Margeaux (margo)

I would take my girls out every 15-20 minutes for 15-20 minutes and limit water. I know it's summer but you can still limit while giving enough.

Maybe try getting the bells you put on the door for them to ring? We have them on all the doors that go outside and our bedroom door because we close it at night. We have 3 dogs, the older 2 ALWAYS ring the bell when they need to go, but the youngest is a whiner. If she's whining, I know she needs to go out. And positive reinforcement. Treats, and we always celebrated when she would potty. Also, I swear she has adhd, but I will literally repeat, "Ruby, go potty. Did you potty? Let's go potty!" My neighbors probably think I'm crazy. 😬 I know it can be hard. Especially while pregnant, but don't give up on her. Our girl turned 8 months this month, so I feel like it took her longer than normal, definitely longer than the other 2, but she rarely has accidents now. And I'm sure there are other cues to look out for. She would never use the bathroom in the room we were in, so when she would just get up suddenly, I'd follow her or just take her out. Or if they're sniffing like they're trying to find a spot.

I’m curious about what your “kennel”training was like exactly. What size crate were you using? If your dog was going to the bathroom in the crate that tells me the space was too large. Your pup shouldn’t want to be going to the bathroom in their sleeping space. They just need enough space to stand up and turn around. No more. The easiest/quickest way to potty train is with a crate/kennel! You may have been doing something wrong there that’s preventing you from getting the results you want.

She was only 8wks wen we got her so the crate was bigger than her at first, (we got a medium sized crate bcs we knew she would get bigger eventually) now, she probably wouldn’t be able to fit in it bcs she’s getting big very fast. But, I did know the whole thing ab the crate should be no bigger than enough for them to be able to stand up and turn around and lay and sit in.

A. Was the crate the correct size. If it is too big, dogs will pee in it. B. Sometimes, young puppies need 30 to 40 minute potty breaks C. When she pees, does she squat super low, like nearly touching the ground? Females, like humans, are notorious with UTIs. D. When you take her outside to pee, be on a leash, even if it is a fenced-in yard. Pick one spot to be the dedicated potty spot and stand there. No play time, no attention. Just stand and wait. Eventually, when she goes, pull favorite treats from pocket and feed, be overly excited, and now play time. While inside, I have on the leash attached to you. Never allow out of sight. Eventually, you learn cues that she's about to go. If she starts to go, you EXCITEDLY pull leash and call her to get to the door. DO NOT PICK UP AND CARRY. Early stages have no negative responses at all what so ever. This is mostly because your still trying to build a strong bond as well. Consistency is key. You slack even once you likely just added another day of training.

We tried a few things for our pup and he was hard to train cause he liked peeing on our bed. What we started doing was his main pee area we had puppy pads and as he peed on them he would exchange them put but slowly inch them to the door. Took us about 6 weeks for pee. Poop took us 9 weeks. We learned he likes corners and edges. He is now almost 4 and has no accidents. We got him when he was 4 months and his original owner hadn't trained any of the puppies.
