I had it, and it ended up being to big for me. Ended up giving me horrible mid back pain which is a rare symptom of it I was told. It also started coming out on its own. I ended up switching to kyleena after nexplanon didn't work. Kyleena is the sister iud to mirena and smaller dose and size. It worked better for me except it was coming out also.
Mirena gave me so many issues. I still had a period on it (which nbd on its own) sex was painful at certain times of the month. My mental health went to shit on it. And I had this horrible smell that the dr kept brushing off.

@Heather usually Mirena doesn’t cause such hormonal effects due to the slow localized hormones so that’s super unlucky for you
I got the IUD after my last pregnancy ended. My uterus was still large obvs, and so 5 days letter it moved and caused me the worst pain of my whole entire life istg. Also caused me to bleed bright red and then brown for damn near all month. I got a new one like a week ago and have had 00000 issues.
My personal experience wasn't good. Over time, I started experiencing weird anxiety and panic attacks. I also couldn't lose weight. Long story short. It caused a hormonal imbalance. Issues resolved after removal. It works well for some, but not for me. Unfortunately some Dr's will dismiss some symptoms, too so it took time for me to figure out they were related to the iud.
@Heather I’m on medication for my postpartum depression and I’m not sure if it would worsen my anxiety and depression. I used to get panic attacks when my postpartum first started but I’ve had it in for little over two weeks and I feel like I would have felt the symptoms by now
I loved it! No periods, cramps, maybe light spotting to never. Maybe weight gain (?). Getting inserted wasn’t bad, just a small pinch. My husband and I would be intimate with no issues (no issues on his end either) and no worries or scared about being pregnant.

@Jasmine I actually didn't experience symptoms until about 6 months and then it slowly got worse. Just keep an eye out for worsening symptoms over time. It might not happen.
Only thing that’s weird to me is that you can feel the strings a little. When mine moved it’s like the strings were right there! It was so freaky
@Monét I have pmdd so that might be why it affected my mental health.

Gave me golf ball sized ovarian cysts. Made me feel crazy. Was too big and I could feel it. Overall awful.
@Morgan how did it give you ovarian cysts?
@Monét iuds can increase risk of ovarian cysts with some people. They're not sure exactly why but they think when some people don't ovulate it increases the chances of getting them. It's on all the pamphlets for potential risks and side effects. If you google it about 10% of people experience this.
@Morgan that is a good point. I did experience cysts on the iud but also had them with the paraguard iud. The dr at the time said it is a common side effect for some.
@Heather thiss , it literally got me to the point where I was having suicidal thoughts and that was definitely not like me . My mental health deteriorated in the worst way . My doctor kept telling me it was impossible that something else was going on but I insisted on removing it and ever since I’m so much better.
I have twice. No complaints or periods.
