Fit to fly letter

I am due to fly on 3rd September with easy jet, I will be 30 weeks (flying back on the 6th being 31 weeks).. my midwife said I should get a fit to fly letter but when I look on easy jet’s policy it says you can fly up until the end of your 35th week.. has anyone else flew at this stage without a fit to fly letter? I am also gestational diabetic, will I be okay just putting my diabetic kit in my suitcase so I don’t have to provide evidence for my needles etc?

I would get the fit to fly anyway just in case, that way you have it if you need it 🙂 x

easyJet do not require a fit to fly. Their own policy on their own website says you don't need one, so if you were to be challenged you could just bring up that web page.

Yeah I’m flying with easyJet too at a similar gestation to you and when I was sat with my midwife at 25 week appointment I checked their policy and read it out to her and she was like ‘oh well you won’t need one then’. So just going to roll with that!

Similar situation - the only thing I took with me when I flew was one of my scan letters or something which shows my due date incase they questioned how many weeks I was (my stomach is quite large so my midwife advised to take it incase they ask)

@Lauren I’ve tried contacting them and it seems to be so much of a hassle getting one😫 x

@Charley yeah I read that so I think I might just go with that and pack my needles in my suitcase so I don’t need evidence for that x

@Safina ahhh that’s good to hear! I think I might just leave it too then to be honest, then as I’m gestational diabetic I’ll just put my needles and kit in my suitcase so I don’t need evidence x

I think maybe look into travelling with medication, because if for example your suitcase got lost or left behind you'd be without your meds, so it's not usually advised to travel separate from your medication. I've never done it personally so just have a look into what is needed to bring them in hand luggage because I think that would be better to be honest t

I got a letter from my midwife as I am also flying with easyjet next week at 30 weeks! It wasn't a specific fit to fly as she said they prefer not to do those anymore, it literally just says how many weeks I am and that there are no complications and it's signed by my midwife, took her 2 mins so see if yours can email one over to you! X

Keen to hear how you get on with the GD and travelling! I’m getting re-tested and was worried that if I do have it I wouldn’t be able to travel 😩😩 so it makes me feel better knowing you can still travel

I got a fit to fly I’m flying Sunday will be 30 weeks. I did get one just in case but weather I use it or not I’m not sure

I print off the forms that the airlines provide and just ask my midwife to fill them out. So far no one has asked, but I don't look heavily pregnant (I'm only 28 weeks). I think the worry is if they ask you for it and you don't have anything to prove that you aren't 35 weeks yet as it's hard for people to tell how many weeks pregnant people are.

not sure if relevant but I flew with my blood thinning needles in my Carry On and didn’t need to prove anything to anyone

@Hannah easyJet don't have forms and they specially state on the website none are needed. So she should be grand 😊 but some proof of how far along you are is ideal

@Hannah could I maybe just take a copy of my growth scan at 28 weeks and then they’ll see when this was etc maybe? I have a phone call with my diabetic midwife on Thursday but not sure if she’ll be able to provide me with anything

After this thread yesterday I called the community midwife line and asked them and she said I could take a pregnancy notes if it’s just to prove my gestation - not sure if you have physical notes or an app. I have a green booklet here in Bolton. I’m not sure how much I trust that though so I’m going to try call my midwife today and see what she says.
