Gestational diabetes

I have been very stressed today and haven’t had much of an appetite but when I have eat and done my blood sugar levels, my dinner was 7.9 and tea was 8.1, could stress impact my levels? As all I have eat is half a chicken burger for dinner, and a small jacket potato with tuna for tea and I have had much more than that in the past and it’s been completely fine.. has anyone else experienced this?

I find that I can eat one thing one day and get like a 5.7 and eat the same thing the next day and get a 7.4. But I was told of you have 2 highs unless explain able you need to call them and let them know. I would say you probably need to add more fat, fibre and protien and even though you are stressed try and eat 3 times a day at regular intervals. It will also get harder to control the more pregnant you get. Breakfast I could eat a couple of weeks ago that stayed within 5.5-6.5 range are now giving me readings of 6.5-7.5

I have read and been told by my dietician that time you go without eating in between meals (fasting time) also affects your blood glucose levels. For example, if you go long periods of time overnight without eating your fasting or breakfast levels could be higher because your body will release more glucose to compensate for when you miss meals. I was told not to go longer than 9-10 hrs at night without eating. I also notice that I’d have a lower carb breakfast and my levels would still be a bit high but a higher carb lunch or dinner and my levels are lower later in the day. Lots of factors come into play, like how much activity you’re doing etc. Try not to skip meals. Hope that helps!

Try eating leafy greens (spinach, lettuce etc) FIRST, when you eat, it makes a massive difference to how your body processes sugar afterwards. Also could try eating sweet potato instead of normal potato. Normal potato has a higher Glycemic index, while sweet potato is lower. With Things like burgers and bread, it makes a massive difference if the bread/burger bun is frozen and then toasted (or even just defrosted), theres a chemical reaction that occurs when the bread is frozen, the starches shrink and become resistant starches therefore your body won’t break it down as easily and won’t get as much sugar out of it, making your blood sugar spikes lower. Similar with toasting. You Can just toast or can just freeze and defrost or freeze and toast. They also say if you want lower the Glycemic index of pasta for example, make it the night before, let it cool and put in the fridge to have the next day, again starches will shrink making your blood sugar spikes lower. Hope this helps😊

Also yes, stress can impact your glucose levels :)
