Paternity and Statutory Maternity

I'm from the UK and was wondering can my partner take paternity leave (1/2 weeks) at the same time I am off with maternity leave or would he have to use annual leave instead?

It's 2 separate things, so it doesn't affect how long you get off

Your partner will/should get 2 weeks paternity leave. This can be taken whenever they want but generally after baby is born. If his company allow then he could tag annual leave on after it.

Yes. My partner did x

Yes

My partner didn’t take paternity leave as the pay is incredibly shit. He saved his holidays and took a month off fully paid instead x

Your partner is legally entitled to 2 week paternity. You can then either share some of your maternity leave with him or he can take annual leave. My baby was due the beginning of April so my husband took a week off at the end of April. He is a nurse doing a specialised clinic so they asked when we told them I was pregnant if we would be sharing my maternity as it would affect a lot of people's cancer treatments. They were glad we said no as organising 2 weeks was hard enough.
